Smithville is a city in DeKalb County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 5,004 at the 2020 census, up from 3,994 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of DeKalb County. Smithville is home to the Smithville Fiddler's Jamboree, which it has hosted annually since 1972. Geography Smithville is located in central DeKalb County at (35.957191, -85.820756). U.S. Route 70 passes through the town as Broad Street, leading east to Sparta and northwest to Lebanon. DeKalb County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,080. Its county seat is Smithville. The county was created by the General Assembly of Tennessee on December 2, 1837, and was named for Revolutionary War hero Major General Johann de Kalb. State Route 146 (SR 146) is a relatively short north–south highway in Middle Tennessee. The road begins northwest of Centertown and ends in Smithville. The current length is , shortened by approximately from the original length when U.S. 70S was routed northward along a new four-lane alignment. Route description SR 146 begins in Cannon County at an intersection with U.S. 70S/ SR 1 in the Bluewing community. It proceeds northward as Short Mountain Road, passing through the community of Center Hill, where it intersects SR 281. It continues north through farmland along the southeastern edge of the Highland Rim and turns east, then northeast as it moves around Short Mountain. State Route 26 (SR 26) is an east–west highway in Middle Tennessee. The road begins in Lebanon and ends in Sparta. The current length is . Route description Wilson County The highway runs an unsigned concurrency with U.S. Route 70 for its entire existence. It begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 70 Business and US 70 in Lebanon as US 70 and State Route 24 move east from Mt. Juliet. SR 26 moves around north Lebanon with US 70 as SR 24 continues with Business 70 through downtown Lebanon. State Route 56 (SR 56) is a state highway that runs south to north in Middle Tennessee, from the Alabama state line near Sherwood to the Kentucky state line near Red Boiling Springs.
