Tennessee State Route 345
State Route 345 (SR 345), also known as Cedar Fork Road, is an north–south state highway in Claiborne County, Tennessee. It serves as a connector between Tazewell to SR 63 and the Hopewell community. Route description SR 345 begins in Tazewell at an intersection with US 25E/ SR 32 just north of downtown. It goes northeast to pass through neighborhoods before passing by businesses and industrial areas. The highway then leaves Tazewell and continues northeast for several miles through a mix of farmland and wooded areas, running parallel to the Powell River. SR 345 then comes to an end at an intersection with SR 63, just across the river from Hopewell. The entire route SR 345 is a two-lane highway. Tazewell, Tennessee
Tazewell is a town in and the county seat of Claiborne County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,165 at the 2000 census and 2,218 at the 2010 census, and 2,348 at the 2020 census. The town is named for Tazewell, Virginia, which itself was named for Henry Tazewell (1753–1799), a U.S. senator from Virginia. History In 1750, Dr. Thomas Walker of Virginia publicized the location of Cumberland Gap, which brought a stream of long hunters down the Clinch and Powell valleys into what is now Claiborne County. The land at the time was part of Cherokee and Shawnee hunting grounds, and hostile attacks by members of these two tribes were not uncommon. To protect themselves, hunters, fur traders and early settlers erected a series of small forts and stations along the Powell and Clinch valleys. State Route 63 (SR 63) is an east–west state highway in the northern portion of eastern Tennessee. It goes from U.S. Route 27 (US 27) in Huntsville to SR 33 in Sneedville, running . SR 63 is a primary route west of US 25E in Harrogate; the portion east of the I-75 junction in Caryville is part of Corridor F of the Appalachian Development Highway System, which stretches from Caryville to Jenkins, Kentucky. East of Harrogate, SR 63 is a much curvier secondary route. State Route 32 (SR 32) is a state highway in East Tennessee. For most of its route, it is an unsigned companion route concurrent with U.S. Route 25E (US 25E). The highway stretches 89 miles from the North Carolina state line to the Tennessee-Kentucky state line near the town of Cumberland Gap. From the junction with US 25W-US 70 in Newport to the Kentucky-Tennessee state line at the Cumberland Gap, SR 32 is designated as the East Tennessee Crossing Byway, a National Scenic Byway. Powell River (Tennessee River)
The Powell River is a 195-mile-long river in the United States that rises in Southwest Virginia and flows southwest into East Tennessee. The South Fork of the river rises in rural Wise County, Virginia, near the Laurel Grove community northwest of Norton and flows for several miles before the confluence with Roaring Fork in the Kent Junction community. From Kent Junction the river flows until it meets the North Fork of the River near Woodway, Virginia. The North Folk originates near Keokee, Virginia. The river flows past Big Stone Gap, Virginia and then runs nearly the entire length of Lee County, Virginia. Dixie Highway
Dixie Highway was a United States auto trail first planned in 1914 to connect the Midwest with the South. It was part of a system and was expanded from an earlier Miami to Montreal highway. The final system is better understood as a network of connected paved roads, rather than one single highway. It was constructed and expanded from 1915 to 1929. The Dixie Highway was inspired by the example of the slightly earlier Lincoln Highway, the first road across the United States. The prime booster of both projects was promoter and businessman Carl G. Fisher. It was overseen by the Dixie Highway Association and funded by a group of individuals, businesses, local governments, and states.
