State Route 217 (SR 217) is a north–south state highway that lies along the eastern edge of the Dresden city limits in Weakley County, Tennessee. Route description SR 217 begins as County Maintenance Road in Dresden at an intersection with SR 22, directly beside Dresden High School. It heads north to leave Dresden and pass through wooded areas to come to an intersection and have a short concurrency with SR 54, where SR 217 very briefly renters the Dresden city limits. The highway then heads north through farmland along Klutts Road to come to an end at an intersection with SR 89. The entire route of SR 217 is a two-lane highway. Dresden is a town in and the county seat of Weakley County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,005 at the 2010 census. Geography Dresden is located at (36.283805, -88.698296). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and 0.19% is water. Demographics 2020 census As of the 2020 United States census, there were 3,019 people, 1,170 households, and 800 families residing in the town. 2000 census As of the census of 2000, there were 2,855 people, 1,212 households, and 784 families residing in the town. The population density was 537.9 people per square mile (207.6/km2). There were 1,331 housing units at an average density of 250.8 per square mile (96.8/km2). Weakley County, Tennessee
Weakley County is a county located in the northwest of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2010 census, the population was 35,021. Its county seat is Dresden. Its largest city is Martin, the home of the University of Tennessee at Martin. The county was established by the Tennessee General Assembly on October 21, 1823, and is named for U.S. Congressman Robert Weakley (1764–1845). Weakley County comprises the Martin, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Weakley County was created in October 1823 from some of the land that the Chickasaw people ceded to the United States in the Treaty of 1818. The county was named after Colonel Robert Weakley, a member of the House of Representatives, a speaker of the State Senate, and the man commissioned to treat (negotiate) with the Chickasaw. State Route 22 (SR 22) is a south-to-north state highway in the western part of Tennessee, United States. It begins at the Mississippi state line in McNairy County, where the roadway continues as Mississippi Highway 2 (MS 2). It ends at the Kentucky state line in Lake County, when it crosses into the Kentucky Bend, a detached portion of Fulton County, Kentucky. The monument for the 1862 Battle of Island Number Ten in the American Civil War is located on SR 22, about north of Tiptonville. State Route 54 (SR 54) is a west–east rural highway in West Tennessee, which runs from Covington to just north of Paris. Route description Covington to Alamo SR 54 begins in downtown Covington in Tipton County at an intersection with US 51/ SR 3. It then goes to a junction with SR 384. Shortly afterwards, it has a junction with SR 179. SR 54 then exits Covington and continues to the east, passing through Glenn and having an intersection with SR 14, which is its northern terminus. SR 54 then continues east and crosses into Haywood County. It then enters Brownsville and intersects SR 19, just a short distance away from its junction with US 70. State Route 89 (SR 89) is a north-south state highway in the farmland of West Tennessee. The route is long. Route description The first few miles of SR 89 hugs the Dyer-Gibson County line. SR 89 then intersects US 45W and US 45E, in the towns of Kenton and Sharon, respectively. SR 89 enters Weakley County and crosses the Rutherford and South Forks of the Obion River between those two intersections.
