Tennessee State Route 178
State Route 178 (SR 178) is a 11.5 mile long north-south state highway in Tipton County, Tennessee. It connects the towns of Munford, Tennessee, Munford and Gilt Edge, Tennessee, Gilt Edge. Route description SR 178 begins in Munford, Tennessee, Munford at an intersection with U.S. Route 51 in Tennessee, US 51/Tennessee State Route 3, SR 3 and heads north through neighborhoods and subdivisions as Tipton Road. It then enters downtown along Tipton Street S, where it passes businesses before having an intersection with Tennessee State Route 206, SR 206 (Munford Avenue). The highway then makes a left onto Main Street before turning right onto Munford Giltedge Road. SR 178 continues northeast to pass through neighborhoods before leaving Munford and winding its way northward through rural areas. It then enters Gilt Edge, Tennessee, Gilt Edge and comes to an end at a y-intersection with Tennessee State Route 59, SR 59. The entire route of SR 178 is a two-lane highway.https://www.tn.gov/c ...

Munford is a city in Tipton County, Tennessee, Tipton County, Tennessee. The population was 5,927 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, when it was listed as a town. History Beginning as a small village which grew around the Mt. Zion Methodist Episcopal Church in the early 1850s, it was officially named "Mt. Zion" after the opening of a post office there in 1856. This office closed in 1874, and in 1886 when Mt. Zion applied to the United States Post Office Department to have it reopened, the application was approved on the condition that it do so with a new name, to avoid confusion with Mt. Zion, Pennsylvania. At that time Pennsylvania was commonly abbreviated as "Penn" and Tennessee was commonly abbreviated "Tenn." The newly appointed Post Master G. B. Sale asked his daughter Lola to choose a name, and they agreed to name it after Colonel Richard Henry Munford (1807–1884) of Covington, Tennessee.
