State Route 127 (SR 127) is a 43.52 mile long north-south state highway in Middle Tennessee. It connects Decherd with McMinnville via Hillsboro and Viola. Route description SR 127 begins in Franklin County in Decherd at an intersection with US 41A/ SR 16 at the northern edge of town. It goes northeast through farmland to have an intersection with SR 279 before crossing the Woods Reservoir/ Elk River and entering Coffee County shortly thereafter. The highway then passes through wooded areas, where it passes by Arnold Air Force Base, before crossing over I-24, without an interchange, and entering Hillsboro. SR 127 then passes by several homes and businesses before having an intersection with US 41/ SR 2. Decherd, Tennessee
Decherd is a city in Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,246 at the 2000 census and 2,361 at the 2010 census. History Peter Decherd came to the area in 1831 from Franklin County, Virginia and set up a plantation. In the 1850s he granted right-of-way to the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad. On February 14, 1856, the thirty-first General Assembly of the state of Tennessee incorporated the town of Decherd with all the rights and privileges as the town of Cookeville, which was also incorporated at that time. After the Civil War, Decherd was again incorporated as a town on January 30, 1868. It was unincorporated in 1885 to avoid application of the "Four Mile Law", which permitted liquor sales within four miles of schools located in incorporated communities. Tennessee State Route 2
State Route 2 (SR 2) is a west–to–east state highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It begins in Murfreesboro, in Rutherford County, and ends near Farragut in Loudon County. The route is both a primary and secondary route. Most of the route is unsigned. It travels southeast from Rutherford County toward Chattanooga and then northeast from there to Loudon County. As nearly the entire route travels concurrent with U.S. Highways, the designation "Tennessee State Route 2" is seldomly used by the general public. The only exception would be a small portion of the route that runs parallel to Interstate 24 (I-24) near Kimball. This portion has been removed from the U.S. Highway system and is no longer part of U.S. Route 41 (US 41); but the highway still exists and is in use. Elk River Dam
The Elk River Dam, completed in 1952, impounds the Elk River in the US state of Tennessee to form the Woods Reservoir. The US Air Force and Arnold Engineering Development Center own and operate Woods Reservoir. The dam itself is just under 3,000 feet long and holds back 26 billion gallons of water on a reservoir. The water is used to help the Arnold Air Force Base with cooling of their wind-tunnel equipment. State Route 30 (SR 30) is an east-west state highway in the central and eastern portions of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It runs generally west to east, connecting McMinnville in Warren County with Parksville along the Ocoee River in Polk County. Collins River
The Collins River is a U.S. Geological Survey. State Route 8 (SR 8) is a north–south state highway in East and Middle Tennessee. It connects the cities of Chattanooga and McMinnville via Signal Mountain and Dunlap. Route description Hamilton County SR 8 begins in Hamilton County as the unsigned companion route to US 41/US 76 at the Georgia border in East Ridge, where they continue concurrent with Georgia State Route 3. State Route 56 (SR 56) is a state highway that runs south to north in Middle Tennessee, from the Alabama state line near Sherwood to the Kentucky state line near Red Boiling Springs. State Route 287 (SR 287) is a north-south state highway located entirely in Warren County in Middle Tennessee. It connects Viola with Rock Island via Morrison, Centertown, Midway, and Rock Island State Park. SR 287’s routing is somewhat unique in that it forms a nearly C-shaped arch around the southern, western, and northern sides of McMinnville.
