Tennessee Department Of Corrections
The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) is a Cabinet-level agency within the Tennessee state government responsible for the oversight of more than 20,000 convicted offenders in Tennessee's fourteen prisons, three of which are privately managed by the Corrections Corporation of America. The department is headed by the Tennessee Commissioner of Correction, who is currently Frank Strada. TDOC facilities' medical and mental health services are provided by Corizon. Juvenile offenders not sentenced as adults are supervised by the independent Tennessee Department of Children's Services, while inmates granted parole or sentenced to probation are overseen by the Department of Correction (TDOC)/Department of Parole. The agency is fully accredited by the American Correctional Association. Rachel Jackson Building
The Rachel Jackson State Office Building, also known as the Rachel Jackson Building, is an eight-story building in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S. It was built on the site of the 1925 Cotton States Building, and completed in 1985. It was designed in the modernist style by Taylor & Crabtree. The building was named for First Lady-designate Rachel Jackson. When it was completed in 1985, it was "the first state-owned building in the tatecapital to memorialize a woman." It is located next to the Andrew Jackson State Office Building, named for former President Andrew Jackson. Thomas Frank Gailor
Thomas Frank Gailor (September 17, 1856 – October 3, 1935) was the third bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee in the Episcopal Church and served from 1898 to 1935. Career Gailor was enrolled in the preparatory department of, then graduated Bachelor of Arts from, Racine College in Wisconsin. Bishop Charles Todd Quintard of Tennessee was an ardent supporter of Racine and its brilliant Rector, the Reverend James DeKoven (1831-1879). Racine was modeled on both the College of St. James's in Maryland (founded 1842) and St. Peter's College, Radley, UK (founded 1847). Both had reputations as outstanding schools. St. James's and Racine were inspired by the scholarly philosophy and practice of William Augustus Muhlenberg (1796-1877), founder of two model schools on Long Island in 1828 and 1836. Tennessee State Prison
Tennessee State Prison is a former correctional facility located six miles west of downtown Nashville, Tennessee on Cockrill Bend. It opened in 1898 and has been closed since 1992 because of overcrowding concerns. The mothballed facility was severely damaged by an EF3 tornado in the tornado outbreak of March 2–3, 2020. Riverbend Maximum Security Institution
The Riverbend Maximum Security Institution (RMSI) is a prison in Nashville, Tennessee, operated by the Tennessee Department of Correction. The prison opened in 1989 and replaced its 100-year-old neighbor, the Tennessee State Penitentiary. RMSI, which is made up by 20 different buildings, sits on located off Cockrill Bend Boulevard in Nashville, TN. Riverbend's designated capacity is 714 offenders. Of that number, 480 are classified as high risk. The prison's overall mission is to ensure the safety of the public, departmental employees and inmates by managing high-risk male offenders. The Bledsoe County Correctional Complex is a state prison in Pikeville, Bledsoe County, Tennessee, owned and operated by the Tennessee Department of Corrections. The facility opened in 2013. As an intake and diagnostic facility, Bledsoe County houses a mix of inmate security levels: 300 minimum security beds, 1024 medium, 192 close, and 24 maximum security, for a total capacity of 1540. Registries contain information about persons convicted of sexual offenses for law enforcement and public notification purposes. All 50 states and the District of Columbia maintain sex offender registries that are open to the public via websites, although information on some offenders is visible to law enforcement only.
