''Ten Years After'' is the debut album by English blues rock band Ten Years After. Recorded at Decca Studios in London in September 1967, and released on October 27, 1967, it was one of the first blues rock albums by British musicians. It has less original material than the band's later works, which were, in most cases, composed entirely of Alvin Lee's songs. It features "Spoonful", a Howlin' Wolf song (written for him by Willie Dixon) that the British blues rock group Cream had covered the previous year on their debut album ''Fresh Cream'' with an extended live version on ''Wheels of Fire''. ''Wheels of Fire'' is the third album by the British rock band Cream. It was released in the US in June 1968 as a two-disc vinyl LP, with one disc recorded in the studio and the other recorded live. It was released in the UK on August 9. It reached number three in the United Kingdom and number one in the United States, Canada and Australia, becoming the world's first platinum-selling double album. In May 2012, ''Rolling Stone'' magazine ranked it at number 205 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Ric Lee
Richard "Ric" Lee (born 20 October 1945) is an English drummer of the blues rock band Ten Years After. Biography Lee was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Was a founding member of his first band, The Falcons. He was also a drummer for Ricky Storm and The Mansfields, which he was persuaded to leave in August 1965. Soon he took over drumming duties for The Jaybirds, with guitarist Alvin Lee, and bassist Leo Lyons. In 1966 they arrived in London, where a keyboardist, Chick Churchill also joined the band. In 1968, the band auditioned at the Marquee Club in London under the name The Blues Yard, but quickly became the successful outfit, Ten Years After. With this group, Lee played at rock festivals including Woodstock in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival on 29 August 1970 as well as appearances at The Newport Jazz Festival, The Miami, Atlanta and Texas Pop Festivals. Leo David William Lyons (born 30 November 1943) is an English musician, who was most notably the bassist of the blues rock band Ten Years After. Biography Leo Lyons was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in November 1943 and became a professional musician at the age of 16. In 1962, along with band-mate Alvin Lee, his band Ten Years After, The Jaybirds performed at The Star Club in Hamburg, Germany. Lyons was also hired to play in the club's house band, along with Tony Sheridan. Simultaneously, he performed at the Top Ten Club with featured guitarist Albert Lee. Woodrow Charles Herman (May 16, 1913 – October 29, 1987) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, singer, and big band leader. Leading groups called "The Herd", Herman came to prominence in the late 1930s and was active until his death in 1987. His bands often played music that was cutting edge and experimental; their recordings received numerous Grammy nominations. Joe Bishop
Joe Bishop (November 27, 1907 – May 12, 1976) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist and composer. Early life and education Bishop was born in Monticello, Arkansas. He learned piano, trumpet, and tuba when he was young, and also played flugelhorn and mellophone. He attended Hendrix College and played professionally with the Louisiana Ramblers in 1927, including in Mexico. Career Bishop played with Mart Britt, Al Katz, and Austin Wylie before joining Isham Jones's band for five years. He was a founding member of Woody Herman's band in the 1930s, but he contracted tuberculosis in 1940 and had to leave the group. He was rehired by Herman as a staff arranger later in the 1940s, and his arrangements and compositions were recorded frequently by Herman, appearing on some 50 of Herman's albums. Alex or Aleck Miller (originally Ford, possibly December 5, 1912 – May 24, 1965), known later in his career as Sonny Boy Williamson, was an American blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter. He was an early and influential blues harp stylist who recorded successfully in the 1950s and 1960s. Miller used various names, including Rice Miller and Little Boy Blue, before calling himself Sonny Boy Williamson, which was also the name of a popular Chicago blues singer and harmonica player. "Spoonful" is a blues song written by Willie Dixon and first recorded in 1960 by Howlin' Wolf. Called "a stark and haunting work", it is one of Dixon's best known and most interpreted songs.
