Ten12 Records
Ten12 Records was a Brooklyn-based outsider electronic, breakbeat, and experimental record label. Ten12 was noted for its focus on facilitating collaboration between new experimental recording artists and the few remaining (and overlooked) early-stage funk and soul pioneers to foster unique recordings that identify the link and dialog between electronic, sample-based recordings and its analog origins. Ten 12's roots stretched back to the Mission District of San Francisco where, in 2000, Charles Lazar started the label in a friend's apartment at 1012 Capp Street. Formerly located in Brooklyn, Ten12 maintained its West Coast presence with operations in San Francisco, while developing a strong international presence, with operations in Japan, Australia, and the Netherlands. Steinski
Double Dee and Steinski is a duo of hip hop producers, composed of Doug "Double Dee" DiFranco and Steven "Steinski" Stein. They achieved notoriety in the early 1980s for a series of underground hip-hop sample-based collages known as the "Lessons". Although they never had a hit record, they proved highly influential for subsequent artists such as Coldcut, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, the Avalanches, and Girl Talk. Their music was not widely available on CD until 2008 due to their use of copyrighted material. Mark Vincent Woodford (born May 24, 1984 in Madison, Wisconsin), better known by his stage name The Audible Doctor, is a Brooklyn-based American record producer and underground rapper. The Audible Doctor has been credited as producer in critically acclaimed studio albums and EPs including ''Made In The Streets'', ''2057'', '' The Ports'', ''Reporting Live'', '' Computer Era'', ''Free Agent'' and '' Thug Matrix 3''. Skull Snaps
Skull Snaps was an enigmatic funk group active between 1963 and 1973. The group is known for their mysterious origins and the anonymity of their members, with the identities of their members being unknown for most of their career and long afterward. Until 1970 they were known as The Diplomats, and released a number of singles with some success. Renamed Skull Snaps, they released an eponymous album on the small GSF label in 1973 before suddenly disappearing. Ten12 Records re-united all the original members of Skull Snaps (Erv Littleton Waters, Sam O. Culley, and George Bragg) in 2005 in tandem with the band's first official release, "Snapped"/"I'm Your Pimp", since its 1975 single. Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the African American community throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century.
