Telogia Creek
Telogia Creek is a waterway in Florida. It is a major tributary of the Ochlockonee River. It is used for canoeing. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) monitors its discharge near Bristol. The stream's water quality is monitored at a site near Greensboro. Road crossings include the Telogia Creek Bridge. Botanist Roland McMillan Harper identified several species in the area of the creek during his travels in Florida 1909–1910. The surrounding area includes horse properties. There is a community of Telogia, a scouting Telogia Camp, and a Telogia Creek Road. Lampropeltis getula meansi, the Appalachicola Kingsnake, lives in the area. It is non-venomous. Ochlockonee River
The Ochlockonee River ( ) is a fast running river, except where it has been dammed to form Lake Talquin in Florida, originating in Georgia and flowing for before terminating in Florida. Background The name is from the Hitchiti language words for yellow river. The Ochlockonee originates south of the town of Sylvester in Worth County in southwest Georgia and empties into Ochlockonee Bay and then Apalachee Bay in Florida. Roland McMillan Harper (1878 – 1966) was an American botanist, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and writer. He wrote for the ''Savannah Morning News'' and covered the settlement of Georgia's wiregrass region in the late 19th century. He is known for his work in the Southeastern United States. Life and legacy He was born in Farmington, Maine. When he was 10, his family moved to Dalton, Georgia and five years later to Americus, Georgia. He and his brother Frances retraced William Bartram's journey through Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Harper discovered and described ''Scirpus georgianus'' before graduating high school and discovered another 29 flowering plants during his career. More than a dozen are named for him. The Apalachicola kingsnake (also known as the Apalachicola Lowlands kingsnake) is a subspecies of nonvenomous colubrid snake found in a small area of the Florida Panhandle known as the Apalachicola Lowlands. Long argued as to whether or not it is a subspecies, the Apalachicola kingsnake was formerly named ''Lampropeltis getula goini''. After years of research and many more specimens examined, in 2006, it was renamed to ''L. g. meansi'' after D. Bruce Means, in recognition of his work on this subspecies. Description Adults can range from 30 to 56.1 inches. They are characterized by variable coloration patterns with an overall light dorsal coloration and wide or thin banding patterns.
