''De-Loused in the Comatorium'' (commonly referred to as ''De-Loused'') is the debut studio album by American progressive rock band the Mars Volta, released on June 24, 2003, on Gold Standard Laboratories and Universal Records. Based on a short story written by lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala and sound manipulation artist Jeremy Ward (musician), Jeremy Ward, the concept album is an hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who enters a week-long coma after overdosing on a mixture of morphine and rat poison. The story of Cerpin Taxt alludes to the death of El Paso, Texas artist—and Bixler-Zavala's friend—Julio Venegas (1972–1996). Live (The Mars Volta EP)
''Live'' is the first officially released live recording from the band The Mars Volta. The EP was released in limited quantities in 2003 and is now difficult to find. Due to this, the EP has become a collectors item among fans. The first two tracks were recorded live at the XFM Studio in London, 2003. The last two tracks were recorded at the Electric Ballroom in London on July 9, 2003. The jam in "Drunkship of Lanterns" later became part of "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus" from ''Frances the Mute''. The album artwork is from the fable of Arachne (also Arachné). It has also been used as the backdrop during the band's live performances. Storm Elvin Thorgerson (28 February 1944 – 18 April 2013) was an English graphic designer and music video director. Eva Catherine Gardner (born February 17, 1979) is an American bassist from Los Angeles. A founding member of The Mars Volta, she has been a studio and touring musician in bands for Cher, Gwen Stefani, P!NK, Veruca Salt and Tegan and Sara. Early life Eva Gardner is the daughter of The Creation bassist Kim Gardner, and cites her father as her primary influence. She is a graduate of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she studied under trumpet player Bobby Rodriguez. She holds a degree in ethnomusicology from UCLA (''cum laude''). Jeremy Michael Ward (May 5, 1976 – May 25, 2003) was an American musician, best known as the sound technician and vocal operator for The Mars Volta and De Facto. Biography Jeremy Ward was born in Fort Worth, Texas and later moved to El Paso. He was a cousin of Jim Ward and was loosely associated with Jim's band At the Drive-In since its formation in 1994.
