Teledyne Turbine Engines
Teledyne Turbine Engines (TTE) is a turbine engine manufacturer located in Toledo, Ohio. A division of Teledyne Technologies Inc., TTE is the successor to the former Teledyne CAE. History In 1940, Continental Motors Corporation formed Continental Aviation and Engineering (CAE) to develop and produce aircraft engines of over 500 hp. It begins development of turbine engines during the 1940s, but none entered production. From the 1950s-1970s, CAE built a licensed version of the Turbomeca Marboré as the Teledyne CAE J69. In 1969, Teledyne Incorporated acquired Continental Motors Corporation, which became Teledyne Continental Motors (TCM). Teledyne CAE J700
The Teledyne CAE J700 is a small turbojet engine designed to power unmanned air vehicles such as missiles. It was developed for and powers the ADM-141C ITALD air-launched decoy missile. Design and development In the early 1990s, Brunswick developed an improved version of the ADM-141 TALD decoy missile with turbojet power, the ADM-141C. The Continental CAE T51 was a small turboshaft engine produced by Continental Aviation and Engineering (CAE) under license from Turbomeca. A development of the Artouste, it was followed by three additional turboshaft engines, the T72, the T65, and the T67. However, none of these engines, including the T51, entered full production. CAE abandoned turboshaft development in 1967 after the XT67 lost to the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T (T400) to power the Bell UH-1N Twin Huey. Teledyne CAE J402
The Teledyne CAE J402 is a small turbojet engine. Several variants have been developed to power unmanned air vehicles such as missiles and target drones. Developed in the 1970s for the Harpoon anti-ship missile, the J402 was the first jet engine to be designed as a " wooden round", meaning that the engine had to be able to sit for long periods without maintenance or inspection and work right away. Development and design The J402 engine was designed for the Harpoon missile from the beginning. Its size and weight were dictated by the already-planned missile (just over 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter, about 100 lb (45 kg) in weight). The engine also had to be designed to be inexpensive; the military wanted to produce and store large quantities of the missile. To meet these requirements, Teledyne aerodynamically scaled their J69-T-406 turbojet to just 32% air capacity. This brought thrust and size down to the desired levels.
