Tejano Music Award For Song Of The Year
The Tejano Music Award for Song of the Year is an honor presented annually at the Tejano Music Awards, whose mission is to recognize the most talented performers of the genre. Songs nominated for the category are also eligible to be nominated for Single of the Year, and genre-specific categories Tejano Crossover, Mexican Regional Song, and Tejano Country Song of the Year. The only English-language recording to have won the award (and to be nominated) was "Oh Girl" by La Mafia in 1983, which was included on ''Honey'', which also won Album of the Year. Mazz is the most awarded group with nine wins, while Elida Reyna is the most awarded female singer with seven wins. The Tejano Music Awards (TMA) is an accolade created by former arts teacher and musician Rudy Trevino in 1980. The accolade recognizes outstanding performers of Tejano music, a German polka-based Latin music genre recorded in Spanish or English-language. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by Tejano artists and bands and the presentation of all awards. The Tejano Music Awards are annually presented in San Antonio, Texas, although the ceremony has been presented in other cities such as Eagle Pass, Texas in the past. The first Tejano Music Awards was held in 1980 and recognized Tejano musicians and recordings of 1980. Cornelio Reyna
Cornelio Reyna Cisneros (September 16, 1940 – January 22, 1997), better known as Cornelio Reyna, was a Regional Mexican singer, composer, bajo sextist and actor. He made over 60 recordings of Norteño (music), Norteño and Mariachi music. He was the lead vocalist for the group "Los Relámpagos del Norte" (The Lightning Bolts of The North). Reyna was considered a native of the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas due to his great affection for the city and that his career grew there. As an actor, Reyna appeared in some 30 films about Mexican popular culture. Luis Silva (November 5, 1943 – October 22, 2008) was a Tejano music songwriter, considered by music critics to have been one of the "most well-known and prolific songwriters in the history of Tejano music" and "one of the most influential and prolific songwriters and record label promoters in Tejano music history". Silva wrote two winning Tejano Music Awards for Song of the Year, won three consecutive times for Songwriter of the Year, and remains the most awarded songwriter for the Tejano Music Award for Single of the Year category. José María De León Hernández (born October 17, 1940), known professionally as Little Joe is an American tejano performer who grew up in Temple, Texas, and lives in Temple, Texas. Career Little Joe is of Mexican descent. Hernández told the '' Stockton Record'' in 2015 that he was born "in a three-wall, dirt-floor garage on a cold stormy night," the seventh of 13 children. His father, Salvador, was known as "La Cotorra" (the parakeet) and was a troubadour. His mother, Amelia DeLeon, was a trained pianist. "My dad and aunts all played instruments and sang," he told the ''Riverside Press-Enterprise'' (Nov. 18, 2015). We'd go to parties that would last until three in the morning.
