Tehuelches Department is a department of Chubut Province in Argentina. The provincial subdivision has a total area of 14,750 km², and its capital city is José de San Martín, which is located around 1,870 km from the Capital federal. Departments Of Argentina
Departments ( es, departamentos) form the second level of administrative division (below the provinces), and are subdivided in municipalities. They are extended in all of Argentina except for the Province of Buenos Aires and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the national capital, each of which has different administrative arrangements (respectively ''partidos'' and ''comunas''). Except in La Rioja, Mendoza, and San Juan Provinces, departments have no executive authorities or assemblies of their own. Chubut Province
Chubut ( es, Provincia del Chubut, ; cy, Talaith Chubut) is a province in southern Argentina, situated between the 42nd parallel south (the border with Río Negro Province), the 46th parallel south (bordering Santa Cruz Province), the Andes range to the west, and the Atlantic ocean to the east. The province's name derives from the Tehuelche word , meaning "transparent," their description of the Chubut River. Río Pico is a town in Tehuelches Department, province of Chubut, Argentina. The town owes its name to the engineer Octavio Pico Burgess (1837–1892), in honor of his task as an expert in the border conflict between Argentina and Chile. Population In 2001 the town had 1,055 inhabitants (INDEC, 2001), representing an increase of 11.3% compared to the 948 inhabitants (INDEC, 1991) in the previous census.
