Teheran (film)
''Teheran'' is a 1946 British-Italian thriller film co-directed by Giacomo Gentilomo and William Freshman. It stars Derek Farr as Pemberton Grant, a British intelligence officer who discovers a plot to assassinate the President of the United States Franklin D. Roosevelt at the Tehran Conference during the Second World War. It also featured Marta Labarr, Manning Whiley and Pamela Stirling. It was also released under the alternative titles ''Appointment in Persia'' and ''The Plot to Kill Roosevelt'' and ''Conspiracy in Teheran''. It was shot at the Scalera Studios in Rome. Plot In 1943, Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt meet at the Tehran conference to agree plans for the Allied invasion of Europe. Whilst attempting to trace ballerina Natalie Trubetzin (Marta Labarr), who he met before the outbreak of war, British journalist Pemberton Grant (Derek Farr) uncovers a deadly conspiracy. William Freshman
William Freshman (1 November 1902, in Sydney, Australia – 1980 in London, England) was an Australian-born actor, scriptwriter and director. He moved to England as a child and worked in the British film industry, writing over 20 screenplays and working as an associate producer at British International Pictures. He also wrote the play ''The Last of the Ladies''. In 1939 Freshman returned to Australia with his screenwriter wife Lydia Hayward under contract to Cinesound Productions for whom he directed ''Come Up Smiling'' (1939). It was announced that he and Hayward would make two more films for the studio, an adaptation of the books ''Overland Telegraph'' and ''Robbery Under Arms'', but during World War II feature film production at Cinesound came to a halt and the films were not made. Operation Long Jump (german: Unternehmen Weitsprung) was an alleged German plan to simultaneously assassinate Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Franklin Roosevelt, the "Big Three" Allied leaders, at the 1943 Tehran Conference during World War II. The operation in Iran was to be led by SS-''Obersturmbannführer'' Otto Skorzeny of the Waffen SS. A group of agents from the Soviet Union, led by Soviet spy Gevork Vartanian, uncovered the plot before its inception and the mission was never launched. The assassination plan and its disruption have been popularized by the Russian media with appearances in films and novels. John Slater (22 August 1916 – 9 January 1975) was an English character actor who usually portrayed lugubrious, amiable cockney types. Biography Slater's father was an antiques dealer. After attending St Clement Danes Grammar School in Hammersmith, Slater began acting in farce at the Whitehall Theatre. He first appeared on film in 1938, remaining active in the industry up to his death. He was a familiar face in British films of the 1940s and appeared in many classic films of the period, including ''The Day Will Dawn'' (1942, US title ''The Avengers''), ''Went the Day Well?'' John McIntosh Beattie (4 January 1905 – 10 January 1972), known professionally as John Warwick, was an Australian actor, and television dramatist. Early life He was born John McIntosh Beattie (many sources give "Beattle") at Bellingen, New South Wales, Australia. He took the name Warwick from his secondary school.
