Tegucigalpa Olympic Village
The Olympic Village of Tegucigalpa is a sports complex situated in the northeastern part of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. The Government of Honduras designed the complex to serve as the city's main sports center, and also to provide accommodation for athletes participating in international events. It is located to the north of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, Autonomous National University of Honduras. Entry is free of charge and there are facilities for many types of sport. It is owned by the state of Honduras and managed by the National Commission for Sporting Installations (CONAPID), within a monthly budget of 10 million ''Honduran lempira, lempiras''. History The Tegucigalpa Olympic Village was built in 1989, during the presidency of José Azcona del Hoyo. Tegucigalpa Olympic Stadium
Tegucigalpa (, , ), formally Tegucigalpa, Municipality of the Central District ( es, Tegucigalpa, Municipio del Distrito Central or ''Tegucigalpa, M.D.C.''), and colloquially referred to as ''Tegus'' or ''Teguz'', is the capital and largest city of Honduras along with its sister city, Comayagüela. Claimed on 29 September 1578 by the Spanish colonization of the Americas, Spaniards, Tegucigalpa became the country's capital on October 30, 1880, under President Marco Aurelio Soto, when he moved the capital from Comayagua. The Constitution of Honduras, enacted in 1982, names the sister cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela as a Tegucigalpa#Central District, Central District to serve as the permanent national capital, under articles 8 and 295. After the dissolution of the Federal Republic of Central America in 1841, Honduras became an individual sovereign nation with Comayagua as its capital. The capital was moved to Tegucigalpa in 1880.
