Teeswater, Ontario
Teeswater is a community in the municipality of South Bruce, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It is located 12 kilometres west of Mildmay, 16 kilometres north of Wingham on County Road 4, and 25 kilometres southeast of Ripley on Bruce Road 6. The population in 2016 was 995. History Teeswater is located on the Teeswater River, a tributary of the Saugeen River. Surveyors named the river after the River Tees in England and the settlement was named for the river. The post office dates from 1855. The first settlers, mainly English and Scottish, arrived in 1856. Teeswater was incorporated as a village in 1875 and remained a separate municipality until it was amalgamated with Culross Township to form the Township of Teeswater-Culross in 1998. In 1999, Teeswater-Culross was itself amalgamated with the Township of Mildmay-Carrick to form the new municipality of South Bruce. Mary Riter Hamilton
Mary Riter Hamilton (1867–1954) was a Canadian artist. In 1919, she painted the battlefields of France and Belgium, recording the aftermath of World War I. She has been dubbed "Canada’s First Woman Artist", although this is chronologically false. Life and work Mary Riter was born in Teeswater, Ontario February 11, 1867. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Clearwater, Manitoba. She retained her ties with Manitoba in her later life. In 1889, when she was 18, she married Charles W. Hamilton, a merchant, and moved to Port Arthur, Ontario to be with him. The marriage was short as her husband died four years later in 1893. She then began painting china and waterpaint in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She briefly went to study in Toronto, Ontario and eventually moving to Europe studying in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and France. She studied at the Académie Vitti in Paris. The membership was set by the 1974 election on July 8, 1974, and was only changed somewhat due to resignations and by-elections before it was dissolved prior to the 1979 election. The Schulich School of Business is the business school of York University located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The institution provides undergraduate and graduate degree and diploma programs in business administration, finance, accounting, business analytics, public administration and international business as well as a number of PhD and executive programs. James Gillies
James McPhail Gillies, CM (2 November 1924 – 13 December 2015) was a politician and economist in Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1972 to 1979 who was elected in the Toronto, Ontario riding of Don Valley. He taught economics at the Schulich School of Business at York University and was sought after for commentary on economic issues. Background Gillies attended public and secondary school in Teeswater, Ontario. He then went to London, Ontario to attend University of Western Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944 during World War II. In 1945 he continued his education in the United States at Brown University and Indiana University at Bloomington. Jennie Fletcher
Jennie Fletcher (19 March 1890 – 17 January 1968), later known by her married name Jennie Hyslop, was a British competitive swimmer, Olympic gold medallist, and former world record-holder. In 1905 she set a new world record in the 100-yard freestyle that stood for seven years. She was selected for the 1908 Olympics, but the women's swimming events were cancelled due to a shortage of participants.
