Teesport Renewable Energy Plant
Tees Renewable Energy Plant is a proposed biomass fueled power station situated on the River Tees at Teesport in Redcar and Cleveland, North East England. The plant will operate alongside other renewable energy units and industrial processes operating in the Northeast of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) Development The station would burn of woodpellets per year, sustainably sourced and primarily imported from Europe and America. This would generate 299 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 600,000 homes. If constructed the plant would be one of the largest dedicated wood pellet biomass power station in the United Kingdom, and one of the largest ever biomass-fueled power stations in the world. The North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) is an economic cluster created following the industrial cluster ideas and strategy of Michael Porter. This Process Industry Cluster has been created by the chemistry using industries based in North East England where more than 1,400 companies are based in the supply chain of the sector. The sector has over 35,000 direct employees and some 190,000 indirect employees in the northeast of England and together they represent over one third of the industrial economy of the region. Companies in the Cluster manufacture 50% of the UK's Petrochemicals and 35% of the UK's Pharmaceuticals and they significantly contribute towards making the region the only net exporting region of the UK. Redcar and Cleveland is a borough with unitary authority status in North Yorkshire, England. River Tees
The River Tees (), in Northern England, rises on the eastern slope of Cross Fell in the North Pennines and flows eastwards for to reach the North Sea between Hartlepool and Redcar near Middlesbrough.
