Teenage Head (band)
Teenage Head is a Canadian punk rock group from Hamilton, Ontario, that was popular in Canada during the early 1980s. The group was formed in Hamilton, Ontario in 1975, by Frankie Venom (Frank Kerr), Gord Lewis, Steve Mahon, and Nick Stipanitz. Venom died on October 15, 2008. Lewis died August 7, 2022. The band's name is a reference to The Flaming Groovies' 1971 album '' Teenage Head'', which Gord Lewis had seen advertised in a music magazine but not heard, and decided that he, one day, would form a band with that name. History Teenage Head was formed in 1975 when the band members were students at Westdale High School in Hamilton. The original lineup featured Gord Lewis on guitar, Steve Park on guitar, Frankie Venom on drums and Dave Desroches on vocals. Hamilton is a port city in the Canadian province of Ontario. Hamilton has a population of 569,353, and its census metropolitan area, which includes Burlington and Grimsby, has a population of 785,184. The Dave Rave Conspiracy
Dave "Rave" DesRoches is a Canadian rock musician from Hamilton, Ontario. To the general public, he is the sometime Teenage Head rhythm guitarist on the early recordings who graduated to lead singer during a Frankie Venom hiatus in 1985 and catapulted the band back into the charts. Many know him as a session player who has played with such notables as Daniel Lanois, Andrew Loog Oldham and Alex Chilton. Career Early career Dave began his music career in his high school years writing songs and performing driving acoustic rock and folk-pop in and around Hamilton. Ontario Place (theme Park)
Ontario Place is an entertainment venue, event venue, and park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The venue is located on three artificial landscaped islands just off-shore in Lake Ontario, south of Exhibition Place, and southwest of Downtown Toronto. It opened on May 22, 1971, and operated as a theme park centered around Ontario themes and family attractions until 2012 when the Government of Ontario announced that it would close for redevelopment. It has since reopened as a park without admission but without several of the old attractions. The Government of Ontario is currently considering further redevelopment of the site. Heatwave was a rock festival held on August 23, 1980 at Mosport Park north of Bowmanville, Ontario. The slogans used to promote the show were variously the "Punk Woodstock", the " New Wave Woodstock", or "The 1980s Big Beat Rock and Roll Party". The Last Pogo
''The Last Pogo'' is a short film made by Colin Brunton in 1978. Shot in Toronto, at the Horseshoe Tavern, ''The Last Pogo'' concert on December 1 was billed as "the last punk rock concert" in Toronto—at least for that original wave of punkers circa 1977/1978. Named as ironic tribute to "The Last Waltz", the concert film of the final concert by The Band directed by Martin Scorsese. Featuring performances by The Scenics, The Cardboard Brains, The Secrets, The Mods, The Ugly, The Viletones and Teenage Head, the event also spawned a live recording called ''And Now Live From Toronto -- The Last Pogo''. Apart from the performances, the highlight of the film was probably the shots of the aftermath, because during the show, a bit of a riot occurred. Brunton's crew was ushered outside by police and firefighters, but the sound recordist stuck it out.
