Tedi Thurman
Theodora "Tedi" Thurman (born Dorothy Ruth Thurman; June 23, 1923 – September 17, 2012) was an American fashion model and actress who found fame in the 1950s as Miss Monitor on NBC's ''Monitor'', a 40-hour weekend radio show developed by Pat Weaver. Born in Midville, Georgia, the daughter of a banker, Thurman originally planned to become a painter, studying at the Corcoran Institute in Washington, D. C. Her career plans changed, and she went to New York for modeling. Her first shoot wound up as a ''Vogue'' cover, bringing with it many other modeling jobs and some work on television soap operas. Columnist Alice Hughes described her appearance: She had film offers, but only one role, in the z-grade 1954 Ed Wood movie, '' Jail Bait''. John Ludlow Gould (February 5, 1914 – May 24, 1993) was an American journalist and critic, who wrote commentary about television. Early life and education Gould was born in New York City into a socially prominent family and attended the Loomis School. Career He started as a copy boy at the ''New York Herald Tribune'' in 1932. In 1937 he moved to ''The New York Times'', writing for the drama department and in the 1940s writing also about radio. ''The Tonight Show'' is an American late-night talk show that has aired on NBC since 1954. The show has been hosted by six comedians: Steve Allen (1954–1957), Jack Paar (1957–1962), Johnny Carson (1962–1992), Jay Leno (1992–2009 and 2010–2014), Conan O'Brien (2009–2010), and Jimmy Fallon (2014–present). Jack Harold Paar (May 1, 1918 – January 27, 2004) was an American talk show host, author, radio and television comedian, and film actor. He was the second host of ''The Tonight Show'' from 1957 to 1962. Ed Walker (April 23, 1932 – October 26, 2015) was an American radio personality. He hosted a weekly four-hour Sunday night program, ''The Big Broadcast'', on WAMU-FM, featuring vintage radio programs from the 1930s to 1950s, such as ''Gunsmoke'', ''The Jack Benny Show'', ''The Lone Ranger'', ''Fibber McGee and Molly'', and ''Superman''. Walker began hosting ''The Big Broadcast'' in 1990 when his friend John Hickman discontinued hosting due to illness; the show, which started in 1964 as ''Recollections'', was the longest running program on WAMU. Willard Herman Scott Jr. (March 7, 1934 – September 4, 2021) was an American weather presenter, radio and television personality, actor, narrator, clown, comedian, and author, whose broadcast career spanned 68 years, 65 years with the NBC broadcast network. Joy Boys
The ''Joy Boys'' was a popular daily improvised comedy radio show in Washington, D.C., between 1955 and 1974 that launched the broadcast careers of the program's co-hosts Willard Scott and Ed Walker. The two did various skits and satirized prominent people of the day, such as Scott's character "Arthur Codfish" (mocking Arthur Godfrey). They both regularly parodied NBC-TV's '' Huntley-Brinkley Report'' with their own zany "Washer-Dryer Report". Walker told an interviewer years later that the duo imitated some 20 voices in all. Bob And Ray
Bob and Ray were an American comedy duo whose career spanned five decades, composed of comedians Bob Elliott (1923–2016) and Ray Goulding (1922–1990). The duo's format was typically to satirize the medium in which they were performing, such as conducting radio or television interviews, with off-the-wall dialogue presented in a generally deadpan style as though it were a serious broadcast. Radio Elliott and Goulding began as radio announcers (Elliott a disc jockey and Goulding a newscaster) in Boston with their own separate programs on station WHDH, and each would visit with the other while on the air. Their informal banter was so appealing that WHDH would call on them, as a team, to fill in when Red Sox baseball broadcasts were rained out. Elliott and Goulding (not yet known as Bob and Ray) would improvise comedy routines all afternoon, and joke around with studio musicians.
