Ted Rowlands
Edward Rowlands, Baron Rowlands (born 23 January 1940) is a Welsh politician, who served as a Labour Party (UK), Labour Party Member of Parliament for over thirty years, including a period as a junior minister in the 1960s and 1970s. Education He attended Rhondda Grammar School and Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Wirral Grammar School, and then King's College London, where he obtained a BA in History in 1962. Political career Rowlands was first elected to the Commons at the 1966 United Kingdom general election, 1966 general election as Member of Parliament for Cardiff North (UK Parliament constituency), Cardiff North, but lost his seat at the 1970 United Kingdom general election, 1970 election. He was elected to represent Merthyr Tydfil (UK Parliament constituency), Merthyr Tydfil at the 1972 Merthyr Tydfil by-election, 1972 by-election called after the death of the long-standing MP S. O. ''The Right Honourable'' ( abbreviation: ''Rt Hon.'' or variations) is an honorific style traditionally applied to certain persons and collective bodies in the United Kingdom, the former British Empire and the Commonwealth of Nations. The term is predominantly used today as a style associated with the holding of certain senior public offices in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and to a lesser extent, Australia.
