Ted Rippon
Edward Charles Rippon (29 April 1914 – 12 December 1991) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon—and for St Kilda after World War II began to draw to a close—in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Edward Charles Rippon (1869–1946), and Florence Georgina Rippon (1876–1964), née Kenney, Edward Charles Rippon was born on 29 April 1914. He married Jen Brenda Watson on 26 November 1938. Football Ted Rippon was recruited by Carlton from Cheltenham; however, a series of injuries prevented him from breaking into Carlton Seniors. He moved to Essendon in 1933, and made his senior debut against St Kilda on 22 July 1933 (Round 13 of the home-and-away season). He was a good, hard-working, reliable player for Essendon, winning Essendon's Most Serviceable Player award in 1935, who played most of his 69 senior games in the ruck. John Coleman (Australian Footballer)
John Douglas Coleman (23 November 1928 – 5 April 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who played for and coached the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Coleman is widely regarded as one of the greatest-ever Australian rules footballers. In a relatively short playing career, Coleman has the second-highest goal average in the history of the VFL/AFL (with 5.48), kicking 537 goals in 98 matches; he is only eclipsed by Peter Hudson (with 5.64). As of 2022, they are the only VFL/AFL players to average more than 5 goals per game He was also known for his high-flying spectacular marks, in some cases jumping cleanly over opponents. After a knee injury ended his playing career at age 25, he returned to coach Essendon to premiership success. Coleman died in 1973, at the age of 44, of sudden coronary atheroma. 3AW is a talkback radio station based in Melbourne. It broadcasts on 693 kHz AM. It began transmission on 22 February 1932 as Melbourne's fifth commercial radio station. The station is owned and operated by Nine Entertainment Co. History 3AW was established when a company formed by Allans, JC Williamson's and David Syme (then publishers of ''The Age'' newspaper) was granted a radio broadcasting licence, with the first broadcast on 22 February 1932. The A in 3AW comes from the names of "Allans" and "The "Age"; and the W is from "J. C. ''World of Sport'' was an Australian sports program that was broadcast live by HSV-7 in Melbourne from 1959 to 1987 on Sundays between 11am and 2pm. By the end of its run, the show was claimed as the world's longest running sports program. History A unique combination of talk, banter, highly informed commentary, invented and real sports, the program held a unique place in the sports-obsessed culture of Melbourne and made stars out of a number of ex-sportsman, particularly Australian rules footballers. The show premiered on Saturday 16 May 1959, less than three years after the debut of television in Australia. Sponsored by Westinghouse (a white goods manufacturer) it ran for two hours and was hosted by radio commentator Ron Casey. HSV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, its first and oldest station. It launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of AFL coverage. The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') was the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room was located, controlling all metropolitan and regional feeds. Programming lineup, advertisement output, feed switching, time zone monitoring and national transmission output was previously delivered there. A pallbearer is one of several participants who help carry the casket at a funeral. They may wear white gloves in order to prevent damaging the casket and to show respect to the deceased person. Some traditions distinguish between the roles of pallbearers and casket bearer. The former is a ceremonial position, carrying a tip of the pall or a cord attached to it. The latter do the actual heavy lifting and carrying. There may otherwise be pallbearers only in the symbolic sense if the casket is on an animal or vehicle. Cheltenham Football Club
The Cheltenham Football Club is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, that was founded in 1891 and currently plays in Division 1 of the Southern Football Netball League. History As early as 1891, the "Cheltenham Football Club" regularly played football matches, often travelling long distances from their southern Melbourne base to play country teams such as Ballarat. The Cheltenham home games were played on a paddock on the corner of Park and Charman roads in Cheltenham. In 1909, the club moved to its current home at the Cheltenham Recreational Reserve on Weatherall Road. Also in 1909, Cheltenham entered in the newly formed Federal Association and became the inaugural Federal Association premiers.
