Edward Morgan Lewis (25 December 1872 – 23 May 1936), otherwise known as Ted Lewis, was a Welsh born, United States of America, American Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher as well as a professor of English literature, dean (education), academic administrator, the tenth Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, president of the Massachusetts Agricultural College and fifth President of the University of New Hampshire. Biography Early life Lewis was born in 1872 in Machynlleth, Wales. He came to the United States in 1880. Baseball career Nicknamed "The Pitching Professor" and "Parson", Lewis was an ordained minister who earned a master's degree from Williams College. He was one of three Welsh-born players to break into major league baseball in the U.S. He was 23 years old when he debuted with the Boston Beaneaters on 6 July 1896. Ted Lewis (computer Scientist)
Theodore Gyle (Ted) Lewis (born 1941) is an American computer scientist and mathematician, and professor at the Naval Postgraduate School. Biography Lewis received his BS in Mathematics and his PhD in computer Science. He started his career at the Oregon State University, where he became Professor of Computer Science and directed its Industry Research Center OACIS. In 1993 he moved to the Naval Postgraduate School, where he was chairman of computer science for four years. In 1997 he moved to DaimlerChrysler Research and Technology, North America, Inc., where he served as president and CEO. After about three years he moved to the Eastman Kodak Company, where he directed the Digital Business Development division. Theodore Leopold Friedman (June 6, 1890 – August 25, 1971), known as Ted Lewis, was an American entertainer, bandleader, singer, and musician. He fronted a band and touring stage show that presented a combination of jazz, comedy, and nostalgia that was a hit with the American public before and after World War II. He was known by the moniker "Mr. Entertainment" or Ted "Is Everybody Happy?" Lewis. He died of lung failure in August 1971. Early life Born in Circleville, Ohio, Lewis was one of the first Northern musicians to start imitating the New Orleans jazz musicians who came up to New York in the teens. He first recorded in 1917 with Earl Fuller's Jazz Band, who were attempting to copy the sound of the city's newest sensation, the Original Dixieland Jass Band. Edmund Paul Lewis (born October 18, 1969), better known as Ted Lewis, is an American voice actor who does work for 4Kids Entertainment, Central Park Media, TAJ Productions, DuArt Film and Video and NYAV Post. He primarily works as an anime dub voice actor and is best known as the voice of King Dedede from '' Kirby: Right Back at Ya!'', Ryo Bakura from ''Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters'', and Jack Atlas from ''Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's''. He was also one of the script writers for ''Pokémon Chronicles''. Ted Lewis (15 January 1940 – 27 March 1982) was a British writer known for his crime fiction. Early life Alfred Edward Lewis was born in Stretford, Manchester and was an only child. After the Second World War the family moved to Barton-upon-Humber in Lincolnshire. He had a strict upbringing and his parents did not want their son to go to art school, but his English teacher Henry Treece, recognising his creative talents in writing and art, persuaded them not to stand in his way. Lewis attended Hull Art School for four years. Career Lewis's first work was in London, in advertising, and then as an animation specialist in television and films (among them the Beatles' '' Yellow Submarine''). His first novel, '' All the Way Home and All the Night Through'', was published in 1965, followed by '' Jack's Return Home'', which created the noir school of British crime writing and pushed Lewis into the best-seller list. Ted "Kid" Lewis (born Gershon Mendeloff; 28 October 1893 – 20 October 1970) was an English professional boxer who twice won the World Welterweight Championship (147 lb). Lewis is often ranked among the all-time greats, with ESPN ranking him 41st on their list of the 50 Greatest Boxers of All-Time and boxing historian Bert Sugar placing him 46th in his Top 100 Fighters catalogue. Statistical boxing website BoxRec ranks Lewis as the 17th best welterweight of all-time and the 7th best UK boxer ever.
