Tecumseh Indians
The Tecumseh Indians were a minor league baseball team based in Tecumseh, Michigan. From 1906 to 1908, while hosting minor league home games at Athletic Park, Tecumseh teams played exclusively as members of the Class D level Southern Michigan League, winning the 1907 league championship. Today, Tecumseh High School has adopted the "Indians" moniker. History Tecumseh reportedly hosted an independent semi–professional team in 1905. Minor league baseball began in Tecumseh, Michigan in 1906. The Tecumseh "Indians" became charter members of the six–team Class D level Southern Michigan League, also called the "Southern Michigan Association". The Battle Creek Crickets, Jackson Convicts, Kalamazoo White Sox, Mount Clemens Bathers and Saginaw team joined Tecumseh as charter members of the league. Saginaw () is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Saginaw County. The city of Saginaw and Saginaw County are both in the area known as Mid-Michigan. Monroe Randolph Stark (January 19, 1885 – December 1, 1924) was a college baseball coach and professional baseball player who coached the Mississippi A&M Aggies, now known as the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 22–4 record in 1909. John Wesley "Jock" Somerlott (October 26, 1882 – April 21, 1965) was an American first baseman in Major League Baseball who played for the Washington Senators from 1910 to 1911. In 29 career games, he batted .204, scored eight runs, and had four stolen bases. Personal life John Wesley Somerlott was born in Flint, Indiana, to Jonas C.J. and Elmira (née Mabie) Somerlott, in 1882. He married Bertha Louisa Williams, and they were married at the parsonage of the church of Christ in Metz by the Rev. F. D. Durham on October 18, 1906, and lived most of their lives together in Steuben County, Indiana.
