Technology
Technology is the application of knowledge to reach practical goals in a specifiable and reproducible way. The word ''technology'' may also mean the product of such an endeavor. The use of technology is widely prevalent in medicine, science, industry, communication, transportation, and daily life. Technologies include physical objects like utensils or machines and intangible tools such as software. Many technological advancements have led to societal changes. The earliest known technology is the stone tool, used in the prehistoric era, followed by fire use, which contributed to the growth of the human brain and the development of language in the Ice Age. The invention of the wheel in the Bronze Age enabled wider travel and the creation of more complex machines. Recent technological developments, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet have lowered communication barriers and ushered in the knowledge economy. While technology contributes to econom ...

Terik Language
Terik (Nyang’ori) is a Kalenjin language of Kenya. The language of the Terik is closely related to the Elgon languages Pok and especially Bong'om. Part of the vocabulary is related exclusively to the Elgon languages, for example words like ''murwaket'' 'snail', ''puntet'' 'nail', and ''musempet'' 'sheep tail'. Another trait distinguishing Terik together with Bong'om and Pok from other Kalenjin languages is the replacement of ''l-''V''-l'' by ''r-''V''-n'' in these three dialects. Also, together with the Elgon languages, Terik shows a sound change ''*l'' > ''n'' which is not shared by other Kalenjin varieties. The Terik and Nandi languages are mutually intelligible. The ongoing assimilation to Nandi ways of life has led to a decline in the use of the Terik language in favour of Nandi. Among the Terik, migration into Nandiland tends to be viewed as a change in neighbourhood which may require, among other things, that one adapts one's pronunciation to that of the neighbours. "In ...

SV TEC
Sportvereniging Tielse Eendracht Combinatie, more commonly known as SV TEC or simply TEC (), is a football club based in Tiel, Gelderland. Formed on 1 June 1924, it plays in the Tweede Divisie, the third tier of the Dutch football league system, and has spent most of its history in the lower amateur tiers. Its home ground is Sportpark De Lok. History TEC was founded on 1 June 1924 as a merger of four clubs in Tiel, Gelderland. Initially, ''Amical'', ''Hercules'' and ''Inter Amicos'' joined forces. Later ''Houdt Stand'' also participated in the merger which was called Tielse Eendracht Combinatie (TEC). Despite a difficult start, which saw economical difficulties, the club managed to reach promotion to the Tweede Klasse during the 1930s and another Tiel-based side, ''Velox'', participated in the merger. In the 1951–52 season, TEC finally won promotion to the Eerste Klasse after beating SC Emma. It would only last one season at that level, and the club subsequently suffered two ...

TEC-9
The Intratec TEC-9, TEC-DC9, KG-99 and AB-10 are a line of blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols. They were developed by Intratec, an American subsidiary of the Swedish firearms manufacturer Interdynamic AB. Introduced in 1984, the TEC-9 was made of inexpensive molded polymers and a mixture of stamped and milled steel parts. The simple design of the gun made it easy to repair and modify. The TEC-9 developed a negative reputation for its association with organized crime, street gangs and mass shootings in the 1990s, with it most notably being used during the 101 California Street shooting and the Columbine High School massacre. However, it was a commercial success, with over 250,000 being sold. History Interdynamic AB, a Swedish firearms manufacturer based in Stockholm, designed the Interdynamic MP-9, intended as an inexpensive 9mm submachine gun based on the Carl Gustav M/45 for military applications. The firearm was initially intended for adoption by the South African a ...

Thermal Power Stations In Russia And Soviet Union
The first large peat-fired thermal power station in Russia was built on a location about 80 km away from Moscow, in the place of the current city of Elektrogorsk, during 1912-1914. It was called ''Elektroperedacha'' (literally " electric power transmission"), and the settlement around the station (future Elektrogorsk) acquired this name, Elektroperedacha, as well. Today the station is called GRES-3 or Elektrogorskaya GRES. Terminology The abbreviations below are commonly used in the names of power stations. The term GRES (russian: ГРЭС (Государственная Районная Электростанция), lit=State Regional Power Station, uk, ДРЕС, translit=DRES) refers to a condenser type electricity-only thermal power station introduced in the Soviet Union which still exist in Russia and other former Soviet republics. The Russian abbreviation ГРЭС stands for Государственная районная электростанция, or "state-owned di ...

Triethylcholine
Triethylcholine is a drug which mimics choline, and causes failure of cholinergic transmission by interfering with synthesis of acetylcholine in nerve endings. Effects Triethylcholine produces a slowly developing neuromuscular weakness that is exacerbated by exercise, resembling the symptoms of myasthenia gravis. It also has ganglionic blocking effects, causing transient autonomic symptoms such as hypotension. Muscles stimulated at a high contraction rate are much more affected than those stimulated at a low rate. The muscle weakness typically lasts for 80 to 120 minutes; it is partially relieved by rest. High doses may result in death from respiratory failure, particularly after exercise. Triethylcholine seems to interfere with the synthesis of acetylcholine in the presynaptic nerve endings, since its effects are reversed by choline but not by acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. However the mechanism of action is not definitely known. Animal experiments revealed a relativ ...

Total Electron Content
Total electron content (TEC) is an important descriptive quantity for the ionosphere of the Earth. TEC is the total number of electrons integrated between two points, along a tube of one meter squared cross section, i.e., the electron columnar number density. It is often reported in multiples of the so-called ''TEC unit'', defined as TECU1016el/m2. TEC is significant in determining the scintillation and group and phase delays of a radio wave through a medium. Ionospheric TEC is characterized by observing carrier phase delays of received radio signals transmitted from satellites located above the ionosphere, often using Global Positioning System satellites. TEC is strongly affected by solar activity. Formulation The TEC is path-dependent. By definition, it can be calculated by integrating along the path ''ds'' through the ionosphere with the location-dependent electron density ''ne(s)'': : TEC = \int n_e(s)\,ds The ''vertical'' TEC (''VTEC'') is determined by integration of t ...

Threshold Exceeds Condition
Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T., often written as SMART) is a monitoring system included in computer hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs). Its primary function is to detect and report various indicators of drive reliability with the intent of anticipating imminent hardware failures. When S.M.A.R.T. data indicates a possible imminent drive failure, software running on the host system may notify the user so preventive action can be taken to prevent data loss, and the failing drive can be replaced and data integrity maintained. Background Hard disk and other storage drives are subject to failures (see hard disk drive failure) which can be classified within two basic classes: * ''Predictable failures'' which result from slow processes such as mechanical wear and gradual degradation of storage surfaces. Monitoring can determine when such failures are becoming more likely. * ''Unpredictable failures'' which occur without warning due ...

Transient Erythroblastopenia Of Childhood
Transient erythroblastopenia of childhood (TEC) is a slowly developing anemia of early childhood characterized by gradual onset of pallor. Signs and symptoms Individuals with TEC have a median age of presentation of 18–26 months; however, the disorder may occur in infants younger than 6 months and in children as old as age 10 years. Because of the gradual onset of the anemia, children are often healthier than expected from their low hemoglobin levels. Cause The cause of TEC is unknown, but it thought to be triggered by a viral infection. While rare cases have been attributed to infection with parvovirus B19, the majority of cases are not related to parvovirus infection. This is in contrast to transient aplastic crisis, seen in patients with hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell disease, which is usually caused by parvovirus infection. Diagnosis Children typically present with a moderate normocytic anemia (usual range: hemoglobin 5-8 g/dL) and reticulocytopenia Reticulocyto ...

Time Error Correction (TEC)
The utility frequency, (power) line frequency (American English) or mains frequency (British English) is the nominal frequency of the oscillations of alternating current (AC) in a wide area synchronous grid transmitted from a power station to the end-user. In large parts of the world this is 50  Hz, although in the Americas and parts of Asia it is typically 60 Hz. Current usage by country or region is given in the list of mains electricity by country. During the development of commercial electric power systems in the late-19th and early-20th centuries, many different frequencies (and voltages) had been used. Large investment in equipment at one frequency made standardization a slow process. However, as of the turn of the 21st century, places that now use the 50 Hz frequency tend to use 220–240  V, and those that now use 60 Hz tend to use 100–127 V. Both frequencies coexist today (Japan uses both) with no great technical reason to prefer one over ...
