Teatro Metropólitan
The Teatro Metropólitan is one of Mexico's best-known movie theaters. Before being the Teatro Metropólitan it was known as the Cine Metropólitan, and was built as a movie palace. The architect was Pedro Gorozpe E. with interior decorations by Aurelio G. Mendoza. The Cine Metropolitan opened on 8 September 1943 with the Argentinian film "Dieciséis años" (1943) starring María Duval and Alicia Barrié. Seating capacities were later reduced and given as 3,627 in 1955 and 3,005 in 1971. It closed as a cinema in 1985 and was renovated in 1995, re-opening on 18 December 1996 as the Teatro Metropólitan, a live show venue staging mainly rock concerts.cinematreasures.com Teatro Metropólitan is a sponsor of Mexico City's National Jazz Festival. Movie Palace
A movie palace (or picture palace in the United Kingdom) is any of the large, elaborately decorated movie theaters built between the 1910s and the 1940s. The late 1920s saw the peak of the movie palace, with hundreds opening every year between 1925 and 1930. With the advent of television, movie attendance dropped, while the rising popularity of large Multiplex (movie theater), multiplex chains signaled the obsolescence of single-screen theaters. Many movie palaces were razed or converted into multiple-screen venues or performing arts centers, though some have undergone restoration and reopened to the public as historic buildings. Sara Ramona Alicia Masriera del Campillo (stage name, Alicia Barrié; 7 October 1915 – 28 September 2002) was a Chilean actress who made her acting career in Argentina. Born in Chile, Barrie moved to Buenos Aires with her family and made her acting debut in the 1933 film, ''Dancing''. After marrying an American, she moved to Mexico, where she filmed "Yo fui una usurpadora", before moving to the United States. She died in Longwood, Florida in 2002. Rock Concert
A rock concert is a performance of rock music. During the 1950s, several American musical groups experimented with new musical forms that fused country music, blues, and swing genre to produce the earliest examples of "rock and roll." The Premios TVyNovelas are presented annually by Televisa and the magazine TVyNovelas to honor the best Mexican television productions, including telenovelas. Instituted in 1983, the award ceremony rotates between Mexico City and Acapulco. Alameda Central
Alameda Central is a public urban park in downtown Mexico City. Created in 1592, the Alameda Central is the oldest public park in the Americas. It is located in Cuauhtémoc borough, adjacent to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, between Juárez Avenue and Hidalgo Avenue. Alameda Central can be accessed by Metro Bellas Artes. Description The Alameda Central park is a green garden with paved paths and decorative fountains and statues, and is frequently the center of civic events. The area used to be an Aztec marketplace. On 11 January 1592, Viceroy Luis de Velasco II ordered the creation of a public green space for the city's residents.
