Teachers' International Trade Secretariat
The Teachers' International Trade Secretariat or International Trade Secretariat of Teachers (ITST) was a global union federation bringing together unions representing schoolteachers. History The International Federation of Civil Servants and Teachers was formed in 1925, but in many countries, teachers were not part of the same unions as civil servants, and preferred to organise separately. As a result, in November 1926, the International Federation of Trade Unions sponsored the creation of a new "Teachers' International Trade Secretariat", which brought together the teachers' unions from the old federation, along with some other trade unions. Like its predecessor, it affiliated to the International Federation of Trade Unions. It established headquarters in Brussels. A global union federation (GUF) is an international federation of national trade unions organizing in specific industry sectors or occupational groups. Historically, such federations in the social democratic tradition described as international trade secretariats (ITS),. while those in the Christian democratic tradition described themselves as international trade federations. Equivalent sectoral bodies linked to the World Federation of Trade Unions described themselves as Trade Union Internationals. The International Federation of Civil Servants was a global union federation bringing together trade unions representing civil servants. History Two international conferences of unions of civil servants were organised by the Austrian Association of Public Employees, and held in Vienna in 1923 and 1924. These led to the establishment of the International Federation of Civil Servants and Teachers in 1925, with headquarters in Paris. International Federation Of Trade Unions
The International Federation of Trade Unions (also known as the Amsterdam International) was an international organization of trade unions, existing between 1919 and 1945. IFTU had its roots in the pre-war IFTU. IFTU had close links to the Labour and Socialist International. The IFTU was opposed by the Communist-controlled trade unions. After the American AFL dropped out in 1925 the IFTU became a mainly European body with social democratic orientation. Its primary activity was to lobby the League of Nations and national governments on behalf of the International Labour Organization (ILO). There were various International Trade Secretariats. The major ITS was the International Transportworkers Federation. As of 1930 it had affiliates in 29 countries and a combined membership of 13.5 million. The Federation of the National Education (''Fédération de l'Education nationale'' or FEN) was a French federation of teaching unions. It succeeded the General Federation of Teaching (''Fédération générale de l'enseignement'') founded in 1929 and affiliated to the General Confederation of Labour (''Confédération générale du travail'' or CGT). After World War II the CGT split, and the reformist wing created Workers' Force. In 1948, the teaching federation voted to leave the CGT and become independent. A minority of members retained dual membership with the CGT, and formed a new CGT Federation of Education. The FEN was dominated by the group called "Unity, independence and democracy" close to the Socialists. The Socialist Union of Education Workers (french: Centrale du Personnel enseignant socialiste; nl, Centrale van het Socialistisch Onderwijzend Personeel, CSOP) was a trade union representing workers in the education sector in Belgium. The union was founded in 1913, and affiliated to the Trade Union Commission (SK). In 1924, it was joined by the Independent Trade Union of Education Workers in Antwerp. The Union of Dutch Teachers ( nl, Bond van Nederlandsche Onderwijzer, BNO) was a trade union representing schoolteachers in the Netherlands. The union was founded in 1874 as the Public Assistant Teachers' Association, with 267 members in four cities. Its founders were a group of teachers who were not senior enough to be permitted to join the existing trade association, the Dutch Education Society (NOV). From 1878, it represented all teachers, and changed its name to the Dutch Public Educators' and Head Teachers' Association, but membership declined, until the union was only active in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
