Tchindas
''Tchindas'' is a 2015 Spanish-Cape Verdean documentary film directed by Pablo García Pérez de Lara and Marc Serena. The film premiered at the Outfest Los Angeles 2015 where it received a Grand Jury Award. Plot In the Atlantic Ocean, the tiny island of São Vicente works together to make something beautiful out of nothing: a Carnival. During the month leading up to the festivities we'll discover the struggles needed to achieve it through a person that coined a word: Tchinda. It is shot in the most gay-friendly African country, Cape Verde, according to Afrobarometer's 2016 report. Marc Serena
Marc Serena (born 1983), is a Spanish filmmaker, journalist and author. He is most notable as the director of critically acclaimed African documentaries such as ''Tchindas'', ''Peixos d'aigua dolça'' and ''The Writer from a Country Without Bookstores''. Personal life He was born in 1983 in Manresa, Spain and currently lives in Barcelona. Career In 2011 at the age of 25, he wrote the book ''Trip to the 25'' which had a great success in Asia. It was later released in five languages including Chinese and Korean. In 2014, Serena published ''Un-African love?'', which compiling queer voices from 15 African countries. Then he directed the web documentary ''Double Epidemic'' in 2015. In the same year, Serena wrote and directed the critically acclaimed film ''Tchindas'', co-directed with Pablo García Pérez de Lara. Cesária Évora
Cesária Évora GCIH (; 27 August 194117 December 2011), more commonly known as Cize, was a Cape Verdean singer-songwriter. She received a Grammy Award in 2004 for her album '' Voz d'Amor''. Nicknamed the "Barefoot Diva" for performing without shoes, she was known as the "Queen of Morna". Évora began singing as a young woman in bars in her hometown of Mindelo, and came to international prominence in the 1990s. Biography Early life Cesária Évora was born on 27 August 1941 in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde. When she was seven years old her father, Justino da Cruz Évora, who was a part-time musician, died, and at the age of ten she was placed in an orphanage, as her mother Dona Joana could not raise all six children.
