The Angolan Handball Cup is an annual, nationwide handball competition contested by all eligible handball clubs in the country. The cup, organized by the Angolan Handball Federation is the second most important official handball competition in Angola, following the national league. The competition is held by knock-out rounds until the final two teams in the men's and women's categories play a single playoff match to determine the winner. African Handball Confederation
The African Handball Confederation, (acronym CAHB) referring to a (french: Confédération Africaine de Handball), is the administrative and controlling body for African team handball. Founded on 15 January 1973 after the 2nd All-Africa Games in Lagos (Nigeria), it represents the national handball associations of Africa under the supervision of the International Handball Federation (IHF). The CAHB headquarters is located in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Its current President is the Dr. Mansourou Aremou from Benin. The motto of the organisation is Let's build African Handball together. The tournament, played in a knock-out system, is Angola's second most important basketball competition following the national league. Sporting Clube de Luanda best known as Sporting de Luanda, is an Angolan multisports club based in Luanda. The club's football team, while being one of the most ancient and traditional clubs in Luanda, has been out of major competition due to financial reasons. The team was founded in 1920. During the colonial period in Angola, the club has won eight times the Angolan Provincial Championship the top division of Angolan football as a Portuguese colony. Following the country's independence in 1975 and in an attempt by the communist regime to erase all traces of colonial rule, the club which has been created as an affiliate to Sporting Clube de Portugal was ordered to change its name and therefore became known as Diabos Verdes ''(Green Devils)'', effective from January 31, 1980.
