Tazewell Historic District is a national historic district located at Tazewell, Tazewell County, Virginia. The district encompasses 112 contributing buildings in central business district and surrounding residential area of the town of Tazewell. The most notable building is the Tazewell County Courthouse. It was built in 1874, and rebuilt in 1913 in a Classical Revival style. Other notable buildings include the Old Jail (c. 1832), Clinch Valley News Building, Stras Memorial Episcopal Church (1884), Tazewell Christian Church (1898), Clinch Valley Bank (1889), J. A. Tazewell County () is a county located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,429. Its county seat is Tazewell. Tazewell County is part of the Bluefield, WV-VA Micropolitan Statistical Area. Its economy was dependent on coal and iron of the Pocahontas Fields from the late 19th into the 20th century. History Tazewell County was long a hunting ground for various historic Native American tribes and their ancestral indigenous cultures. Although rare in the eastern United States, there are petroglyphs near the summit of Paintlick Mountain.
