Taymyr Autonomous Okrug
Taymyr Dolgano-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (russian: Таймы́рский Долга́но-Не́нецкий автоно́мный о́круг, '; Enets: Таймыр Оша-Дюрак район, Nenets: Таймыр Долганы-Ненэцие район), was a federal subject of Russia (an autonomous okrug of Krasnoyarsk Krai), the northernmost in Siberian Russia (and thus North Asia). It was named after the Taymyr Peninsula. It was also called Dolgan-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Долгано-Ненецкий автономный округ), by the name of the indigenous people, Dolgans and Nenets. With an area of 862,100 km2 ( ranked 4th) and a population of 39,786 ( 2002 Census), the autonomous okrug was one of the least densely populated areas of Russia as of 2006. Dudinka, with more than half of Taymyr's inhabitants, was the administrative center. The flag of Taymyr Autonomous Okrug, in the Russia, Russian Federation, is a light blue field Charge (heraldry), charged in the center with a white disc (surrounded by four rays at the cardinal positions), which is one half of the flag in width. The disc, in turn, is charged with a Red-breasted Goose in the center. The flag was authorized on 23 June 2000, prior to the okrug's merge to Krasnoyarsk Krai on January 1, 2007. ''White Nights'' is a 1985 American musical drama film directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Mikhail Baryshnikov, Gregory Hines, Jerzy Skolimowski, Helen Mirren and Isabella Rossellini. Snezhnogorsk (russian: Снежногорск) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) under the administrative jurisdiction of Tsentralny City District of the krai city of Norilsk in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. History Snezhnogorsk was founded in 1963 as a settlement for the workers building the Ust-Khantaika hydroelectric plant. Snezhnogorsk got its name during construction, when the first house built was covered with snow up to the roof. The status of an urban-type settlement has been granted in 1964. The city-forming enterprise is Ust-Khantai Hydroelectric Power Station with a capacity of 451 MW. Transportation Snezhnogorsk is a remote settlement with no ground transport available to reach it.
