Taylorville is an unincorporated community in Cardston County, Alberta, Canada. It is located on Highway 501 ten miles southeast of Cardston. The first school opened May 17, 1900 and then later served as a chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Whiskey Gap, Alberta
Whiskey Gap, originally known as "Fareham", is a ghost town in Cardston County, Alberta, Canada. The former community is approximately south of the city of Lethbridge, southeast of the town of Cardston and west of Del Bonita on Highway 501. History In the 1860s and 1870s American traders crossed into what would eventually become Alberta to trade goods and alcohol for buffalo robes and furs. One of the main routes for this trade, the Riplinger Road, crossed the border just west of Whiskey Gap. Many of the wagon cart trails from the early settlers from this era can still be seen over a hundred years later throughout the valley. During the Canadian prohibition period in Alberta between 1916 and 1924 alcohol was smuggled through this area from the United States into Canada. Carway is a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada within Cardston County. It is a port of entry into the U.S. state of Montana opposite of Port of Piegan. Just on the other side of the border is the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Glacier County, Montana. Located approximately south of Cardston. Carway is on the southernmost point of Highway 2, which becomes U.S. Route 89 in Montana. The hamlet was named by William Roberts, the first officer in charge of the station, by combining Cardston and highway. Magrath, Alberta
Magrath is a town in Cardston County, Alberta, Canada. Its population was 2,481 in 2021. Magrath is south of Lethbridge and south of Calgary. History Magrath was established in 1899 by settlers sent by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from Utah and Idaho. These Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints settlers were recruited by the Alberta Railway and Irrigation Company to construct irrigation works in the area funded by British interests by the family of Sir Alexander Galt. The settlers were paid in cash and land in the town. This was the first major irrigation work in Canada and was made possible by the settlers' experience with the extensive irrigation projects undertaken by their church in Utah and Idaho.
