Tawau District
The Tawau District ( ms, Daerah Tawau) is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah, part of the Tawau Division which also includes the districts of Kunak, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau. The capital of the district is in Tawau Town. History The administration of Tawau changed several times in the course of its history. From 1890, the administration managed by the North Borneo Chartered Company, which put this task alternately in the hands of various residents, district officers or candidates for the office of the district officers. During the Japanese occupation, the administration was carried out by Japanese military personnel. The pre-war administration system was continued after the end of World War II. Semporna District
The Semporna District ( ms, Daerah Semporna) is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah, part of the Tawau Division which includes the districts of Kunak, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau. The capital of the district is in Semporna Town. Demographics According to the last census in 2010, the population of Semporna district is estimated to be around 133,164 inhabitants. As in other districts of Sabah, there are a significant number of illegal immigrants from the nearby southern Philippines, mainly from the Sulu Archipelago and Mindanao. University Of California Libraries
The University of California operates the largest academic library system in the world. It manages more than 40.8 million print volumes in 100 libraries on ten campuses. The purpose of these libraries is to assist research and instruction on the University of California campuses. While each campus library is separate, they share (through the UC library system) facilities for storage, computerized indexing, digital libraries and management. Historically, each campus maintained its own library catalog and simultaneously participated in the systemwide union catalog, Melvyl. Al-Kauthar Mosque
The Al-Kauthar Mosque ( ms, Masjid Al-Kauthar or also known as Masjid Besar Tawau) is a mosque in Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia. Built in 1997 and completed in 2002, it is the largest mosque in the state of Sabah, with a capacity that can accommodate from 16,000 to 17,000 people. Kota Kinabalu District
The Kota Kinabalu District ( ms, Daerah Kota Kinabalu) is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah, part of the West Coast Division which includes the districts of Kota Belud, Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Penampang, Putatan, Ranau and Tuaran. The capital of the district is in Kota Kinabalu City. Demographics According to the 2010 census, the population of the district was 462,963. The main ethnic groups were the Chinese (20%), Kadazan-Dusun (15%), Bajaus (16%), Malays (8%) and Muruts (6%). Crown Colony Of North Borneo
The Crown Colony of North Borneo was a British Crown colony on the island of Borneo established in 1946 shortly after the dissolution of the British Military Administration. The Crown Colony of Labuan joined the new Crown Colony during its formation. It was succeeded as the state of Sabah through the formation of the Federation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963. Japanese Occupation Of British Borneo
Before the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific, the island of Borneo was divided into five territories. Four of the territories were in the north and under British control – Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan, an island, and British North Borneo; while the remainder, and bulk, of the island, was under the jurisdiction of the Dutch East Indies. On 16December 1941, Japanese forces landed at Miri, Sarawak having sailed from Cam Ranh Bay in French Indochina. On 1 January 1942, the Japanese navy landed unopposed in Labuan. The next day, 2 January 1942, the Japanese landed at Mempakul on North Borneo territory. After negotiations as to the surrender of Jesselton with the Officers-in-charge of Jesselton and waiting for troop reinforcements, Jesselton was occupied by the Japanese on 8 January. North Borneo Chartered Company
The North Borneo Chartered Company (NBCC), also known as the British North Borneo Company (BNBC) was a British chartered company formed on 1 November 1881 to administer and exploit the resources of North Borneo (present-day Sabah in Malaysia). The territory became a protectorate of the British Empire in 1888 but the company remained involved with the territory until 1946, when administration was fully assumed by the Crown colony government. The company also temporarily administered the island of Labuan in 1890 before it became part of the Straits Settlements. The Lahad Datu District ( ms, Daerah Lahad Datu) is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah, part of the Tawau Division which includes the districts of Kunak, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau.
