Tavriya
''Tavriya'' (russian: Таврия) is a 1959 Soviet drama film directed by Yuriy Lysenko. Based on the novel of the same name by Oles Honchar. Plot Taurida Governorate, Falz-Fein steppe empire. The fates of the two friends Vusti and Hanna are different: Vostya fell in love with the revolutionary Leonid Bronnikov and she herself decided to follow his path. Hanna's dream is to become rich. She falls in love with the son of the Falz-Fein millionaires. But the maid fails to become a mistress: the landowner Sophia Falz-Fein drives Hanna out of the estate. Hard working conditions at work in the landlord economies give rise to solidarity and strong friendship between Russians and Ukrainians. They rebel against their oppressor landowner Falz-Fein. Maria Rostyslavivna Kapnist ( uk, Марі́я Ростисла́вівна Капні́ст), née Marietta Rostyslavivna Kapnist-Sirko (9 (22) March 1913 – 25 October 1993, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian actress, Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1988). During her spanning acting career (1956-1993) she played more than a hundred roles. Early life and education Marietta Kapnist-Sirko was born on 9 (22) March 1913 in St. Petersburg. Her father, Count Rostyslav Kapnist, was a direct descendant of Myrhorod and Kyiv colonel of the Zaporizhian Army Vasyli Kapnist and her mother, Anastasia Baydak – a great-great-granddaughter of Zaporizhian Otaman Ivan Sirko. Ivan Petrovich Ryzhov (russian: Ива́н Петро́вич Рыжо́в; 25 January 1913, Ramensky District, Zelyonaya Sloboda, Bronnitsky Uyezd, Moscow Governorate — 15 March 2004, Moscow) was a Soviet and Russian film and theater actor. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1980). Biography Ryzhov was born on 25 January 1913 in the village of Ramensky District, Zelyonaya Sloboda, in the Bronnitsky Uyezd of the Moscow Governorate of the Russian Empire. In 1935, he graduated from the School of the Moscow Theater of the Revolution and became an actor of the theater. He made his film debut in the role of Captain Soroka in the ''Kubans''. Ivan Ryzhov died on the morning of 15 March 2004 in a Moscow hospital. According to his daughter, it happened due to negligence of the medical staff: the actor had fallen and cut his hand. Larisa Yefimovna Shepitko (, uk, Лариса Юхимівна Шепітько, translit=Larysa Yukhymivna Shepitko; 6 January 1938 – 2 July 1979) was a Soviet film director, screenwriter and actress. She is considered one of the best female directors of all time, with her film '' The Ascent'' being the second film directed by a woman to win a Golden Bear and the third film directed by a woman to win a top award at a major European film festival (Cannes, Venice, Berlin). Shepitko was also considered one of the most prominent Soviet filmmakers during both the Khrushchev Thaw and the Era of Stagnation. The Khrushchev Thaw was a direct response to the limitations that were forced upon Soviet citizens during Stalin’s reign, and essentially marked the inception of an innovative return to the cinematic arts. The Taurida Governorate (russian: Тавріическая губернія, modern spelling , ; crh, script=Latn, Tavrida guberniyası, ) or the Government of Taurida, was a historical governorate of the Russian Empire. It included the Crimean Peninsula and the mainland between the lower Dnieper River and the coasts of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov.
