Tatra 17
The Tatra 17 is a vintage automobile produced by the Czech manufacturer Tatra from 1925 until 1929. It was the company's top-end model which was sold alongside the economy car Tatra 12 and middle class Tatra 30. Design Engine Originally, the car was fitted with a liquid-cooled six-cylinder OHC in-line Tatra 17 engine with and 35 hp (26 kW) power. The block was made from silumin and cylinder heads from aluminium. It was the first Tatra with an ignition battery. The maximum attainable speed of the heavy car was . Altogether 205 vehicles were made before 25 September 1926. Another engine used was from the even more up-market Tatra 31. This was also a liquid-cooled six-cylinder in-line OHC, however this time with and 39,4 hp (29,4 kW) of power. The maximum speed was raised to . 250 vehicles were made with this engine. Tatra is a Czech vehicle manufacturer from Kopřivnice. It is owned by the ''Tatra Trucks'' company, and it is the third oldest company in the world producing cars with an unbroken history. The company was founded in 1850 as ''Ignatz Schustala & Cie'', in 1890 renamed in German ''Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau-Fabriksgesellschaft'' when it became a wagon and carriage manufacturer. In 1897, Tatra produced the first motor car in central Europe, the Präsident automobile. In 1918, it changed its name to ''Kopřivnická vozovka a.s.'', and in 1919 it changed from the Nesselsdorfer marque to the ''Tatra'' badge, named after the nearby Tatra Mountains on the Czechoslovak-Polish border (now on the Polish- Slovak border). During World War II Tatra was instrumental in the production of trucks and tank engines for the German war effort.
