The Tata Steel Chess India Chess Tournament is a chess tournament held in Kolkata, India. It is held in the Rapid and Blitz formats. The venue for the event is National Library of India, Kolkata. Winners 2018 :Tata Steel Chess India 2018 was the inaugural event of the Tata Steel Chess India. Hikaru Nakamura won the rapid section of the tournament, while former World Champion Viswanathan Anand won the blitz section by winning the blitz playoffs against Nakamura after they finished joint first in the blitz double round robin. : : 2019 :The 2019 edition of Tata Steel India Rapid and Blitz was conducted as a part of the Grand Chess Tour 2019. Pentala Harikrishna (born 10 May 1986) is an Indian chess grandmaster. He became the youngest grandmaster from India after attaining the title in 2001, a record now held by Gukesh D. He was Commonwealth Champion in 2001, World Junior Champion in 2004, and Asian Individual Champion in 2011. He is currently third highest rated player in India. Harikrishna won the Tata Steel Group B in 2012 and the Biel MTO Masters Tournament Open event in 2013. Karthikeyan Murali (born 5 January 1999) is an Indian chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2015. Karthikeyan is a two-time national champion. Chess career Born in Thanjavur, Karthikeyan learnt chess at the age of five. In December 2011, he won the Under 12 section of the World Youth Chess Championships held in Caldas Novas, Brazil. Ding Liren (; born 24 October 1992) is a Chinese chess grandmaster. He is the highest rated Chinese chess player in history and is also a three-time Chinese Chess Champion.
