Taste Media
Taste Media is a record label and production company that has released records for bands such as Muse and Shed Seven. The company was formed by Safta Jaffery (former executive of Decca and Magnet Records A&R) and Dennis Smith, who owned the Sawmills recording studio in Cornwall. History Taste Media recorded three of Muse's albums, '' Showbiz'', ''Origin of Symmetry'' and ''Absolution''. Whilst the recordings by Muse were licensed to Mushroom Records in the United Kingdom, with the label credit being split between Taste Media and Mushroom, later acts were issued independently. These independent releases included One Minute Silence's ''One Life Fits All'', Serafin's ''No Push Collide'', along with Shed Seven's '' Where Have You Been Tonight?'' live album and their "Why Can't I Be You?" single, both released in 2003. Absolution (Muse Album)
''Absolution'' is the third studio album by English rock band Muse, first released on 15 September 2003 through Taste Media. The album followed up on ''Origin of Symmetry'' diverse musical tendencies and elaborate sound, while also having a more focused and consistent theme and aesthetic throughout. ''Absolution'' has a noticeably darker and heavier tone musically, with a lyrical focus on theological and apocalyptic concepts. The album reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. It also yielded the band's first top-ten single, with " Time Is Running Out" peaking at number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2009, it was voted by ''Kerrang!'' as the second-best album of the 21st century thus far. As of 2018, ''Absolution'' has sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide. The Buffseeds were an English indie pop band formed in Exeter, Devon, England, in 1999, consisting of Kieran Scragg on lead vocals and guitar, with Joel Scragg on bass, Ella Lewis on drums and Neil Reed on keyboards. Where Have You Been Tonight? Live
Shed Seven are a alternative rock band, formed in York in 1990. One of the groups which contributed to the Britpop music scene of the 1990s, they continue to write, record and release music over thirty years later. They originally comprised singer Rick Witter, guitarist/keyboardist Joe Johnson, bassist Tom Gladwin and drummer Alan Leach. Johnson was later replaced by Paul Banks, although a later lineup of the band included both Johnson and Banks. They belonged to the post- Smiths wave of British musicians such as The Sundays and Marion, with a sound relying heavily on complex guitar arpeggios often in a minor key, and wailing vocals. At the height of their popularity between 1994 and 1999 they had fifteen Top 40 singles and four Top 20 albums in the UK. The band officially broke up in 2003, but reformed for a greatest hits tour in July 2007. Serafin (band)
Serafin is a rock band from London who formed and began playing in September 2000 until quietly disbanding in the late 2000s after the release of their second album. They returned to release a new album in 2020. History The original band lineup didn't play live but the two members who have stayed throughout are Ben Fox Smith, and Darryn Harkness. The band itself was formed after the demise of Stony Sleep when Ben met Darryn at a Eurovision Song Contest party in Highbury, London. Darryn played on some John Peel Sessions before forming Serafin. They added Johnny Borrell (bass) and then Stuart Quinnell with Richie Mills (drums) from Cable. These line-ups were short lived (a few months) and their first gig had Ronny Growler on drums and Mike Clark on bass. One Minute Silence is an Irish four-piece rap metal/nu metal band based in London, England. The band consists of vocalist Brian 'Yap' Barry from Templemore, County Tipperary, guitarist Massimo Fiocco from London, drummer Martin Davies and bass guitarist Glen Diani from Gibraltar. The band announced its split after eight years in a press release dated 21 October 2003. The band officially reconvened without original drummer Eddie Stratton in 2011. Mushroom Records was an Australian flagship record label, founded in 1972 in Melbourne. It published and distributed many successful Australian artists and expanded internationally, until it was merged with Festival Records in 1998.
