Taryam Omran Taryam
Taryam Omran Taryam (1942–2002) was the co-founder of Dar Al Khaleej Printing & Publishing, a publishing house based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Together with his brother, Abdullah Omran Taryam, he founded the first UAE daily national newspaper '' Al Khaleej'', as well as the English-language daily ''Gulf Today''. Early life Born in Sharjah in 1942 and educated in Sharjah and Kuwait, Taryam Omran Taryam completed his education with a degree from Egypt. In 1970, Taryam co-founded Dar Al Khaleej together with his brother Abdullah, and launched a weekly magazine, ''Al Shurouq''. This was followed on 19 October 1970 with the launch of ''Al Khaleej'', the first newspaper in what was then the Trucial State of Sharjah. The Federal National Council (FNC) ( ar, المجلس الوطني الإتحادي, ''al-Majlis al-Watani al-Ittihadi'') of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is an advisory quasi-parliamentary body in the UAE. The FNC consists of 40 members. Twenty of the members are indirectly elected by the hand-picked 12% of Emirati citizens who have voting rights through an electoral college, while the other twenty are appointed by the rulers of each emirate. According to Reuters, "the process of selecting the people who can either elect or be elected is opaque." The first election for half the members of the FNC took place in 2006. Members of the FNC serve 4-year terms. The last election for the indirectly elected members took place on 5 October 2019, and the next election is to be held in October 2023. Trucial States
The Trucial States ( '), also known as the Trucial Coast ( '), the Trucial Sheikhdoms ( '), Trucial Arabia or Trucial Oman, was the name the British government gave to a group of tribal confederations in southeastern Arabia whose leaders had signed protective treaties, or truces, with the United Kingdom between 1820 and 1892. The Trucial States remained an informal British protectorate until the treaties were revoked on 1 December 1971. The following day, six of the sheikhdoms—Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah—formed the United Arab Emirates; the seventh, Ras Al Khaimah, joined on February 10, 1972. The House of Thani ( ar, الثاني , translit=Al Thani) is the ruling family of Qatar, with origins tracing back to the Banu Tamim tribal confederation. History and structure The Al Thanis can be traced back to Mudar bin Nizar. The tribe were settled at Gebrin oasis in southern Najd (present-day Saudi Arabia) before they moved to Qatar.
