Hela Province
Hela is a province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is Tari. The province covers an area of 10,498 km², and there are 249,449 inhabitants (2011 census figures). Hela province officially came into being on 17 May 2012, comprising three districts previously part of Southern Highlands Province. Districts and LLGs There were three districts in the province. However, one new electorate known as Komo Hulia LLG was approved in April 2022 and will go for first election in 28th April 2022 after splitting the Komo-Margarima Electorate. Tari, Papua New Guinea
Tari is the capital of the Tari-Pori District and is the centre of Huli country in the Hela Province of Papua New Guinea. It is the second largest settlement in the province, and accessible by road from Mendi. The town is administered under Tari Urban LLG. Climate Tari has a subtropical highland climate (Köppen ''Cfb'') with heavy rainfall and mild to warm temperatures year-round. Aviation accidents A Cessna 206 aircraft operated by Missionary Aviation Fellowship crashed close to Tari on March 23, 2006, killing its pilot and injuring 3 passengers. The pilot was a 42-year Swiss man who had been in PNG with the Swiss Mission for 12 years, and left a wife and four children behind. The pilot had reportedly entered the circuit area around Tari airfield and appeared to be flying well, but never made it to the runway. The three passengers were PNG nationals. James Marape
James Marape (born 24 April 1971) is a Papua New Guinean politician, who is serving as the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea since May 2019. He has been a member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea since July 2007, representing the electorate of Tari-Pori Open in Hela Province in the highlands. He has held Cabinet Posts as Minister of Education (2008–2011) and Minister of Finance (2012–2019). Marape entered the 2022 elections under the banner of Pangu Party and won more seats than any other party. He was therefore entitled to form the government. His new government was elected unopposed by the new parliament. Early career Marape was born in 1971 in Tari, Hela Province (then in Southern Highlands Province). He attended Minj Primary School and Kabiufa Adventist Secondary School in the PNG highlands.
