Tarbert GAA
Tarbert are a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club in Tarbert, County Kerry, Ireland. They play in the Kerry Junior Championship, Div 2 County League and Div 1 North Kerry Championship. History The club was founded on Sunday 30 July 1899 when Tarbert and Ballylongford began their great rivalry that was to extend well into the twentieth century. Tarbert has a long and proud record in under age competitions which are recorded in great detail in a book which was compiled by Tarbert Bord Na nÓg. This publication which is entitled ''Tarbert G.A.A. A Century of the Red and Black''. Won 2010 North Kerry Championship in an epic replay against Listowel Emmets. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Tarbert, County Kerry
Tarbert (, from an Old Irish term meaning "draw-boat", i.e. portage) is a town in the north of County Kerry, with woodland to the south and the Shannon estuary to the north. It lies on the N69 coast road that runs along the estuary from Limerick before turning inland at Tarbert towards Listowel, and has two schools Tarbert Primary and Tarbert Comprehensive. Tarbert Island The nearby island is linked to the mainland by a short isthmus – the site of the boat portage that gave its name to both the island and the town. There is a car ferry service from the island to the town of Killimer, near Kilrush in Clare. This service, operated by Shannon Ferries, provides a link between the N69 in Kerry and the N67 in Clare. Also on the island is a small lighthouse and an electricity plant with four oil-fired turbines and a capacity of 640MW. Shane Enright
Shane Enright (born 12 June 1988 in Tralee) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for his local club Tarbert and, formerly, for the Kerry county team from 2011 to 2020. He played for the Kerry minor team in 2005 and 2006. In 2006, he won a Munster Minor Championship before losing to Roscommon in the All-Ireland Minor final after a replay. He then moved to the Under 21 team from 2007 to 2009. He had little success in 2007, Kerry being beaten by Clare in the first round. In 2008, Kerry won their first Munster Championship since 2002 and beat Kildare to win their first All Ireland Under 21 title since 1998. North Kerry Senior Football Championship
The North Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA clubs affiliated to the North Kerry Division of Kerry GAA, Kerry. The official name of the competition is The Bernard O'Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship, in honour of the late Bernie O'Callaghan (Beale) who was Chairman of the North Kerry GAA Board for 25 years (1974 to 1998) and did a huge amount of work for North Kerry football. The Championship runs from October to December each year but has on occasion continued into the New Year due to replays and postponements. The Kerry Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kerry GAA clubs. Rathmore are the title holders (2022).. Teams 2022 Teams Honours The winners can be promoted to play in the Kerry Senior Football Championship in the year after they win this competition. The winners of the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship progress to the Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship, representing Kerry, later that year, or, as was the case in 2021, the following year. They often do well there and recent winners include Templenoe in 2019 and Na Gaeil winning in 2022 after winning the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship in 2021.
