Tarampa Shire Council
The Shire of Gatton was a local government area located in the Lockyer Valley region between the cities of Toowoomba and Ipswich, and about west of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1880 until its merger with the Shire of Laidley to form the Lockyer Valley Region on 15 March 2008. History Tarampa Division was created on 15 January 1880 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'', and its board held its first meeting on 20 February 1880. On 25 April 1888, the Laidley Division area broke away and separately incorporated, and on 25 January 1890, the Forest Hill area moved from Tarampa Division to Laidley Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Tarampa Division became the Shire of Tarampa on 31 March 1903. On 3 September 1938, the Shire of Tarampa was renamed the Shire of Gatton. Tarampa Division, March 1902
Tarampa is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. History The locality presumably takes its name from its parish, which in turn was named after the Tarampa pastoral run named in 1847 by pastoralist Charles Cameron. The name is from the Yuggera language, meaning ''wild lime tree.'' In 1877, were resumed from the Tarampa pastoral run and offered for selection on 19 April 1877. Tarampa Provisional School opened on 1 April 1880. On 1 July 1886 it became Tarampa State School. During World War II a military airfield was located at nearby Mount Tarampa called Lowood. The United States Army Air Forces based its 80th Fighter Squadron ( 8th Fighter Group) between 28 March – 10 May 1942), flying P-39 Airacobras. Fordsdale, Queensland
Fordsdale is a rural locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Fordsdale had a population of 52 people. Geography The terrain in the area is rugged. Lower areas along the creeks have been farmed while the steep and elevated parts remain vegetated. Silky Oak Creek joins Ma Ma Creek, a tributary of Lockyer Creek at Fordsdale. Dwyers Scrub Regional Park has been established in the west. The Gatton–Clifton Road runs through from north-east to south. Flagstone Creek is a rural locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Flagstone Creek had a population of 220 people. Geography ''Flagstone Creek'' (the watercourse) flows through from west to north-east. History In 1840, the penal colony at Moreton Bay was being prepared to be turned into a free settlement (which ultimately became the city of Brisbane). As there was settlement already occurring on the Darling Downs, there was a need for Lieutenant Owen Gorman, the last commandant of the penal colony, to find a wagon route between the two locations, but the obstacle was the mountains of the Great Dividing Range. There was a route already known at Cunninghams Gap but it was not able to be used by a wagon. Caffey is a rural locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Caffey had a population of 65 people. Geography ''Tenthill Creek'' forms part of the south-eastern boundary before flowing through to form part of the northern boundary. Blanchview is a rural locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Blanchview had a population of 191 people. Geography The southern half of Blanchview features two mountains. In the west the elevations rise to 600 metres surrounding the peak of Mount Tabletop which is located in the adjacent suburb of Rangeville. The Shire of Highfields is a former local government area on the Darling Downs in Queensland, Australia. It existed between 1879 and 1949. History On 11 November 1879, the Highfields Division was created as one of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 1998. It was divided into three sub-divisions with estimated populations of 480, 891 and 627 for Sub-divisions 1, 2 and 3 respectively, a total of 1989. On 18 January 1884, there was an adjustment of boundaries between Highfields Division's subdivisions Nos. 1 and 2 and Esk Division.
