Tantramar Marshes
The Tantramar Marshes, also known as the Tintamarre National Wildlife Area, is a tidal saltmarsh around the Bay of Fundy on the Isthmus of Chignecto. The area borders between Route 940, Route 16 and Route 2 near Sackville, New Brunswick. The government of Canada proposed the boundaries of the Tantramar Marshes in 1966 and was declared a National Wildlife Area in 1978. The marshes are an important stopover for migrating waterfowl such as semi-palmated sandpipers andCanada geese. Now a National Wildlife Area, the marshes are the site of two bird sanctuaries. The name ''Tantramar'' is derived from the Acadian French ''tintamarre'', meaning 'din' or 'racket', a reference to the noisy flocks of birds which feed there. The Mi'kmaq, an Indigenous nation, historically inhabited the surrounding areas of the Tantramar Marshes. Tantramar Regional High School
Tantramar Regional High School, is a Canadian secondary school located in Sackville, New Brunswick. It is home to the Tantramar Wetlands Centre, a program that aims to provide outdoor education for students. The Tantramar Wetlands Centre was founded in 1998, by Ducks Unlimited Canada, the Canadian Wildlife Service, New Brunswick's Department of Natural Resources, the Town of Sackville and the School District, who teamed up to create the wetlands. The Wetlands Centre for 25 years has been maintained and researched by a group of students looking to better their wetlands education as well as teach visiting schools and students about the ecosystem. Many students of the school are proud to participate in the group they call “The Wetheads”, working alongside waterfowl and community partners like Ducks Unlimited who help to protect and maintain these areas. Tantramar (electoral District)
Memramcook-Tantramar is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was created in the 1973 electoral redistribution and first used in the 1974 election as Tantramar. It went largely unchanged in both the 1994 redistribution and 2006 redistribution, even though it was well below the allowable population variance in the latter. In 2006, the electoral boundaries commission ruled that the district was an exceptional case, as it was surrounded by water and the province of Nova Scotia to the south and west, and to predominantly francophone areas to the north and east that would become significant minorities were they added to the district. The 2013 boundaries commission refused to persist the exception and added the francophone village of Memramcook from the former riding of Memramcook-Lakeville-Dieppe to the district.
