Tanteen Recreation Ground is a cricket and football ground in St. George's, Grenada. History The area in which the ground is located was formerly swamp land, which was drained in 1905. The ground has played host to public events, including a speech delivered by then President of Cuba Fidel Castro in August 1998. Representative cricket was first played there in 1997, when the Windward Islands played Guyana in a first-class match in the 1996–97 Red Stripe Cup. A further first-class match was played there in 1998, before a gap of seven years before the next. The ground hosted the Windward Islands in one first-class match in 2005, two in 2006, and one in 2007. In a 2005 match against the Leeward Islands, the Windward Islands Deighton Butler took a hat-trick in the Leeward Islands second innings. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The Barbados national cricket team is the national cricket team of Barbados, organised by the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA). Rawl Nicholas Lewis (born September 5, 1974) is a West Indian cricketer. Lewis featured as a leg spinner for both the Windward Islands and the Windies in his cricketing career. As of 2016 Lewis holds the role as manager of the West Indies cricket team. Playing career As a native of Grenada, Lewis primarily featured as a leg spinner. He went on to captain the Windward Islands in their victorious 2000-01 Red Stripe Bowl campaign. He also played for Barrow Cricket Club in England, before being recalled to the West Indies squad for the 2005-06 tour of New Zealand. Junior Randalph Murray MBE (born January 20, 1968) is a former West Indian cricketer. He was the first Grenadian to play Test cricket for the West Indies. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1994 New Year Honours for services to sport. Domestic career Murray started his domestic career as a football goal keeper and was very good at it. He was also just as good behind the stumps as well as a batsman. He represented his school Grenada Boy's Secondary School (GBSS) both in football and cricket. In the sport of cricket, a declaration occurs when a captain declares his team's innings closed and a forfeiture occurs when a captain chooses to forfeit an innings without batting. The Grenada national football team represents Grenada in international football and is controlled by the Grenada Football Association, a member of the Caribbean Football Union of CONCACAF.
