Tanguito
José Alberto Iglesias (September 16, 1944 – May 19, 1972), better known as Tango or its diminutive Tanguito or Ramses VII, was an Argentine rock singer-songwriter. Born into a working-class family from western Greater Buenos Aires, he began his career in the early 1960s as the lead singer of the '' nueva ola'' group Los Dukes, which recorded two singles released on label Music Hall. In the late 1960s, he became a leading figure in the countercultural underground of Buenos Aires, a scene that gave birth to Argentine rock (known locally as ''rock nacional'', Spanish for "national rock"), the earliest incarnation of Spanish-language rock. Tanguito is celebrated for co-writing Los Gatos' hit " La balsa", that catapulted the burgeoning ''rock nacional'' into massive popularity in the summer of 1967–68. ''Tango'' is the only studio album by Argentine singer-songwriter Tanguito, recorded in 1970 and released posthumously in 1973 on Talent Records. In 2007, the Argentine edition of ''Rolling Stone'' ranked it fifty-sixth on its list of "The 100 Greatest Albums of Argentine Rock". Background and recording The album was recorded between 1969 and 1970 at TNT Studios, Buenos Aires and featured Tanguito accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, while Javier Martínez served as the producer and spoke to him from the control room. Originally, Tanguito was going to record with the members of Manal—Martínez, Claudio Gabis and Alejandro Medina—but he did not show up for any of the two days that they were cited in the studio. Release The songs "La balsa" and "Amor de primavera" were released as a single within a "flood" of releases by Mandioca in 1970. Tango Feroz
''Tango Feroz: la leyenda de Tanguito'' ( es, Wild tango: the legend of Tanguito) is a 1993 Argentine drama musical film directed by Marcelo Piñeyro, his debut film. It is loosely based in the life of Tanguito, one of the first artists of Argentine rock ("Tanguito" is just a stage name, neither the artist nor the movie are related with Tango music). Fernan Mirás and Cecilia Dopazo, unknown to most spectators by that point, had the lead roles and became famous after the film's release. It was the most successful Argentinian movie of all time. ''Tango Feroz'' centers on Tanguito's drug addiction, his love relationship with Mariana, his friendship with Mauricio "Moris" Birabent, his madness and final years. Argentine rock (known locally as ''rock nacional'' , "national rock" in the sense of "local", "not international") is rock music composed or performed by Argentine bands or artists mostly in Spanish. Argentine rock began by recycling hits of English-language rock & roll. However a rising trend of composing new songs mostly in Spanish can be traced at late 1960s, when several garage groups and aspiring musicians began composing songs and lyrics that related to local social and musical topics. Since then, Argentine rock started a continued and uninterrupted evolution through the 1970s and into the 1980s. A distinguishing trait of Argentine rock is its insistence on Spanish language lyrics. Litto Nebbia
Félix Francisco "Litto" Nebbia Corbacho (born 21 July 1948) is an Argentine singer-songwriter, musician and producer prominent in the development of Argentine rock. Life and work Félix Francisco Nebbia Corbacho was born in Rosario, Santa Fe to Martha and Félix Nebbia (two sons of Italian immigrants), in 1948. His parents were struggling musicians, though during his early teens, ''Litto'' left secondary school to join a friend, keyboardist Ciro Fogliatta, in a band ("Wild Cats"). The duo moved to Buenos Aires in 1963, and lived hand-to-mouth in a Balvanera ward tenement. They appeared in a television show, ''Escala Musical'', a number of times, and became regulars at a popular neighborhood recital hall, ''La Cueva''. Nebbia and Fogliatta formed "Los Gatos" in 1966. Jorge Álvarez (producer)
Jorge Álvarez (1932 – July 5, 2015) was an Argentine publisher and record producer, considered one of the most important promoters of Argentine culture in the 1960s and 1970s, first in the world of literature and later in the world of music. In 1963, he founded the publishing house Editorial Jorge Álvarez and later Ediciones de la Flor, from which he released the work of writers like Rodolfo Walsh, Ricardo Piglia, Manuel Puig, Joaquín Lavado, David Viñas, Marta Lynch, Leopoldo Torre Nilsson and Juan José Saer, as well as the ''Mafalda'' comic strip by cartoonist Quino. Between 1963 and 1968, he published around three hundred books that marked "a milestone in Argentine and Latin American literature." Mataderos
Mataderos (Spanish for "slaughterhouses") is a ''barrio'' (neighbourhood) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is one of the three ''barrios'' that make up the Comuna 9, alongside Liniers and Parque Avellaneda. Located in the south-west end of the city, it takes its name from the livestock market and various slaughterhouses located within it.
