Tanglin Railway Station
Tanglin railway station, also known as Tanglin Halt, was a railway station on the Singapore-Johore Railway which served Tanglin, as well as Pasir Panjang, from 1932 to 1983. History As it was decided that Tank Road station was unfit to be the terminus of the line, it was decided that the Bukit Timah-Tank Road section of the line would be abandoned, and the line would instead deviate in between Bukit Panjang station and Bukit Timah station, travelling down a different route which ran along the west of the main town, to a new terminal station at Tanjong Pagar, with a new station being built at Bukit Timah, and two new stations at Tanglin and Alexandra. Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) (Jawi: كريتاڤي تانه ملايو برحد) or Malayan Railways Limited is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. The railway system dates back to the British colonial era, when it was first built to transport tin. Previously known as the Federated Malay States Railways (FMSR) and the Malayan Railway Administration (MRA), Keretapi Tanah Melayu acquired its current name in 1962. The organisation was corporatised in 1992, but remains wholly owned by the Malaysian government. History In 1948, the FMSR was renamed the Malayan Railways. Tanglin
Tanglin is a planning area located within the Central Region of Singapore. Tanglin is located west of Newton, Orchard, River Valley and Singapore River, south of Novena, east of Bukit Timah, northeast of Queenstown and north of Bukit Merah. Etymology and history On 7 November 2006, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) called for proposals to liven up the Dempsey Road area when it launched two new tenders for sites there. In doing so, it also announced that it has plans for the area up to 2015. Known as Tanglin Village, the former Central Manpower Base has now been transformed into a commercial plaza best accessed via car or taxi. The uniquely interesting barracks buildings have been well preserved and currently house a variety of retail establishments such as high end antique shops, restaurants, galleries and the like. Pasir Panjang
Pasir Panjang is an area located at the southern part of Queenstown in Singapore. Kent Ridge Park is a topographical feature which runs adjacent to Pasir Panjang. History Pasir Panjang Road, which once hugged the coastline, was laid down as far as the Jurong River by John Turnbull Thomson by 1850. Thomson was Government Surveyor of Singapore from 1841 to 1853. In 1910, the Government took over the opium industry and a state-owned factory was established at Pasir Panjang. In February 1942, the Battle of Pasir Panjang took place here. This was one of Singapore's last major battle between the Japanese and the British armed forces. The Japanese victory resulted in the Fall of Singapore. Many soldiers from the 1st Malaya Infantry Brigade such as Adnan bin Saidi died here. Since the late 1960s, the whole length of the coast, from the Singapore River to Jurong, has been reclaimed for wharves, almost entirely devoted to containerisation. Tank Road Railway Station
Tank Road railway station was a railway station which served as the terminus of the Singapore-Kranji Railway from 1903 to 1932. History Originally located along River Valley Road at the foot of Fort Canning Hill, the station was opened on 1 January 1903, under the name of Singapore Station, on the Singapore-Kranji Railway, the first railway line in Singapore. The station served as the terminus of the line, running services to Bukit Timah railway station, and later to Kranji and to Malaysia. The station master occupied the Tan Yeok Nee House, after Tan Yeok Nee and his family moved out amid construction of the station. Pillar boxes were installed in both Tank Road station and Newton station later that year. The station was later relocated along Tank Road, and reopoened on May 1, 1906. Tanjong Pagar railway station ( ms, Stesen Keretapi Tanjong Pagar; ; ta, தஞ்சோங் பகார் ரயில் நிலையம்), also called Singapore railway station ( ms, Stesen Keretapi Singapura; ; ta, சிங்கப்பூர் ரயில் நிலையம்) or Keppel Road railway station, is a former railway station located at 30 Keppel Road in Singapore. The station was the southern terminus of the network operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM), the main railway operator in Malaysia, until 30 June 2011 when the station ceased operations with relocation of the KTM station to Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Alexandra Halt railway station, or simply Alexandra Halt, was a railway station on the Singapore-Johore Railway which served the surrounding neighbourhoods, and as a halt for trains travelling along the railway, from 3 May 1932 to sometime before 1943. Tanglin Halt
Tanglin Halt is a public housing estate, planning subzone and former industrial estate in Queenstown, Singapore. Most of the older buildings in the estate are set to be demolished by 2024 to make way for redevelopments under the Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme. It is the third housing estate to be redeveloped under the scheme. History The Tanglin Halt Industrial Estate was established sometime before the 1960s, serviced by the Tanglin railway halt, and included the Setron Factory. The estate was named after the railway halt. Residential developments in the Tanglin Halt estate were first developed in 1962 as one of the first public housing estates in Singapore, with Tanglin Halt Road running through the neighbourhood. Buona Vista is a housing estate located in the subzones of one-north and Holland Drive in the residential township of Queenstown in Singapore. The housing estate is served by the Buona Vista MRT station which links it up with the MRT system. It also has a bus terminal. History The Buona Vista estate was developed by the Housing and Development Board in the early 1970s as the neighbourhood 6 of Queenstown.
