Tananger Church
Tananger Church ( no, Tananger kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sola Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tananger. It is the church for the Tananger parish which is part of the Tungenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The large, brick church was built in a fan-shaped design in 2002 using designs by the architect Olav Urstad. The church seats about 400 people. History The church was built in 2002 to replace the Old Tananger Church, which was later renamed ''Tananger Chapel''. The new church was consecrated on 1 September 2002. Tananger Chapel ( no, Tananger kapell; historically called ''Tananger Church'') is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in Sola Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tananger. It used to be the church for the Tananger parish which is part of the Tungenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1879 using designs by the architect Henrik Nissen, who adapted plans made by Hans Linstow. The church seats about 250 people. The church was in use from 1879 until 2002 when the new Tananger Church was completed about east of the old church. Tananger is a large village and urban area in Sola municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The urban area is located on the west side of the Stavanger Peninsula between the North Sea and the Hafrsfjorden. It lies about southwest of the city centre of Stavanger. Tananger Chapel (from 1879) and Tananger Church (from 2002) are both located here. The village has a population (2015) of 6,377 which gives the village a population density of . Tananger has grown significantly, more than doubling in size from 1980 until 2015.
