Tan Lark Sye
Tan Lark Sye (; 1897–1972) was a prominent Chinese people, Chinese businessman and philanthropist based in Singapore. Early life Tan was born in a Hoklo (ethnic group), Hoklo peasant family of seven in Jimei of Tong An in Fujian, China. Born into of very limited means, and orphaned young, he had little chance of an education before he made his way to Nanyang (region), Nanyang in 1916 together with his brothers, at the age of 18. Career In Singapore, Tan worked in one of Tan Kah Kee's factories, and within half a year he was promoted to a responsible position in Tan Kah Kee's Khiam Aik (Qianyi) company. Not long afterward, he left the company to set up a rubber enterprise with the help from his brothers, but the enterprise lost half its capital in a year. Tan then ran it alone and after several years, he built up his Aik Hoe (Yihe) rubber company and became one of the leading rubber industrialists of the region. Jimei District
() is one of six districts of Xiamen, People's Republic of China. Founded in 1992, with an area of , in 2003 it gained some territory in a reorganisation of district governments. The total local resident population is 280,000. Jimei District has a rich history and vibrant culture. Tao Nan School
Tao Nan School (abbreviation: TNS; Chinese: ), is a co-educational primary school in Singapore. One of the six Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan schools, along with Ai Tong School, Chongfu Primary School, Kong Hwa School, Nan Chiau Primary School and Nan Chiau High School, Tao Nan School is among the 30 most popular primary schools listed by the Ministry of Education. Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) (), or the Singapore Hokkien Association in English, is a cultural and educational foundation. It was established in 1840 to promote education, social welfare and the preservation of the Chinese language and culture among Chinese Singaporean and other Overseas Chinese groups in Southeast Asia. As of 2014, the SHHK, which has 5000 members, is the largest clan association in Singapore.
