Tampico (film)
''Tampico'' is a 1944 drama/war film directed by Lothar Mendes and starring Edward G. Robinson, Lynn Bari, Victor McLaglen, Marc Lawrence, and Mona Maris. It was released by 20th Century Fox. Plot Capt. Bart Manson is the captain of an oil tanker during World War II, who rescues Katherine Hall when her ship is sunk by a German U-boat. The couple marry, but Manson's ship is subsequently sunk as well. Hall becomes a prime suspect for involvement as she was carrying no identification when rescued. However Manson later discovers that his First Mate Fred Adamson is in fact a German agent responsible for the sinking, and Hall is cleared of any culpability. Cast * Edward G. Robinson as Capt. Lothar Mendes
Lothar Mendes (19 May 1894 – 24 February 1974) was a German-born screenwriter and film director. His two best known films are ''Jew Süss (1934 film), Jew Süss'' (1934) and ''The Man Who Could Work Miracles'' (1936), both productions for British studios. Career Born in Berlin, Mendes began his career as an actor in Vienna and Berlin in Max Reinhardt's company. After directing his first two films in Berlin, he settled in the United States in the early 1920s and remained there until 1933, directing more than a dozen features, mostly frothy comedies, while under contract to Paramount Pictures, Paramount. His films included the last silent film made in the USA, ''The Four Feathers (1929 film), The Four Feathers'' (1929), and the murder mystery ''Payment Deferred'' (1933) starring British actor Charles Laughton. Chief Mate

Tonio Selwart
Antonio Franz Theus "Tonio" Selmair-Selwart (June 9, 1896 – November 2, 2002) was a German actor and stage performer. Biography Selwart was born in Wartenberg, Bavaria, Germany, and raised in Munich. After studying medicine like his father (a well known surgeon), he decided instead to become an actor, following a lifelong interest in theater. Selwart thereafter studied acting and appeared in many plays throughout Europe. He appeared in a variety of stage productions, including classics such as Shakespeare and modern popular works like Heinrich von Kleist's romantic dream play, '' The Prince of Homburg'', in which he played the title role. After further honing his skills as a director, Selwart decided to try his luck in the United States of America.
