Tartu JK Tammeka, commonly known as Tartu Tammeka or simply Tammeka, is a Football team, football club, based in Tartu, Estonia, that competes in the Meistriliiga, the top flight of Estonian football league system, Estonian football. Founded in 1989, the club has played in the Meistriliiga since the 2005 Meistriliiga, 2005 season and have never been relegated from the Estonian top division. The club's home ground is Tamme Stadium, Tartu Tamme Stadium. History Early years and road to the Meistriliiga Tammeka was founded on 13 June 1989 as a youth academy by Hillar Otto, Avo Jakovits and Heino Ligi. In 2000, the club joined the Estonian football league system and began competing in the Southern division of the III liiga. Tammeka's debut season was a success as the team finished first with 46 points out of the possible 60. Tammeka was promoted to the II liiga, and in 2001, to the Esiliiga. Tamme Stadium ( et, Tamme staadion) is a multi-purpose stadium in Tartu, Estonia, located in the district of Tammelinn. First opened in 1932 and reaching its current look in 2011, the stadium is home to Tartu Tammeka and holds 1,638 people. History The original sports park was designed in 1928 by the architect Arnold Matteus. The work was completed in 1932 and in 1936, a grandstand was added. Since then the stadium has been used for games in the Estonian Football League. There have been numerous international athletic competitions held in the stadium, and also Estonian Song Festivals. Tamme Stadium was the home ground for Tartu Olümpia, who became the Estonian champions in 1940, after beating Tallinna Kalev 3–1 in the final round of the 1939–40 Estonian Football Championship season.
