Tamarin Bay
Tamarin () is a village on the western coast of Mauritius. It has long been the seat of the council district of Rivière Noire (Black River). The district council has recently been moved to new headquarters in Bambous, this village being more accessible to the villagers. An old fisherman village, Tamarin has developed into a residential area and a moderated holiday resort. Tamarin is especially popular with surfers. The village is surrounded by hills and is very picturesque. It is located next to Black River, another fisherman's village on the west coast of the island. Tamarin has benefited from continuous development in recent years including a new commercial and leisure area as well as a new primary school. Tamarin (4823918620)
The tamarins are squirrel-sized New World monkeys from the family Callitrichidae in the genus ''Saguinus''. They are the first offshoot in the Callitrichidae tree, and therefore are the sister group of a clade formed by the lion tamarins, Goeldi's monkeys and marmosets. Taxonomy and evolutionary history Hershkovitz (1977) recognised ten species in the genus ''Saguinus'', further divided into 33 morphotypes based on facial pelage. A later classification into two clades was based on variations in dental measurements. A taxonomic review (Rylands et al., 2016) showed the tamarins are a sister group to all other callitrichids, branching off 15–13 million years ago. Within this clade, six species groups are historically recognised, ''nigricollis'', ''mystax'', ''midas'', ''inustus'', ''bicolor'' and ''oedipus'', five of which were shown to be valid with ''Sanguinus inustus'' placed within the ''midas'' group. The Districts of the Republic of Mauritius are the second-level administrative divisions after the Outer Islands of Mauritius. Bambous is a small town in Mauritius located in the Rivière Noire District. The village is administered by the Bambous Village Council under the aegis of the Rivière Noire District Council. According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2011, the population was at 15,345. Sports The local football team is the Bambous Etoile de L'ouest S.C, the village host a multi-purpose sports venue, the Stade Germain Comarmond, the venue has hosted various international competitions such as the 2006 African Championships in Athletics and 2009 African Junior Athletics Championships.
