Tamaqua, Pennsylvania
Tamaqua (pronounced tuh-MAH-qwah, del, tëmakwe) is a borough in eastern Schuylkill County in the Coal Region of Pennsylvania, United States. It had a population of 6,934 as of the 2020 U.S. census. Tamaqua was established from territory from West Penn and Schuylkill Townships. The borough is part of the micropolitan statistical area of Pottsville. Tamaqua is located northwest of Allentown, northwest of Philadelphia, and west of New York City. History 18th century Tamaqua was settled in 1799 by Burkhardt (alternatively Berkhard) Moser, his son Jacob (born 1790) and John Kershner, who built shelters and a sawmill at the confluence of the Little Schuylkill River and Panther Creek, which is downtown Tamaqua today. Coaldale is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. Initially settled in 1827, it was incorporated in 1906 from part of the former Rahn Township; it is named for the coal industry—wherein, it was one of the principal early mining centers. Rahn Township, Pennsylvania
Rahn Township, Pennsylvania was a former Pennsylvania township created from the lightly populated former Penn Township of Schuylkill County, in Eastern Pennsylvania. Rahn Township was in existence from 1788–1971 and was the governmental body of the less populated lands between today's boroughs of Tamaqua and Coaldale, and Bull Run now absorbed by their growth. Anthracite, also known as hard coal, and black coal, is a hard, compact variety of coal that has a submetallic luster. It has the highest carbon content, the fewest impurities, and the highest energy density of all types of coal and is the highest ranking of coals. Anthracite is the most metamorphosed type of coal (but still represents low-grade metamorphism), in which the carbon content is between 86% and 97%. Tuscarora is a census-designated place (CDP) in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 980 at the 2010 census. Geography Tuscarora is located at (40.761918, -76.048965). One branch of the headwaters to the Schuylkill River is in Tuscarora. Panther Creek is a west-draining left-bank tributary of the Little Schuylkill River's drainage basin and rises in the vicinity of the east side of Lansford in the plateau-like nearly flat terrain of the complex three-way saddle between Mount Pisgah to its east, Nesquehoning Ridge to the north and Pisgah Ridge to the south, both ridgelines flanking its entire course as it makes its way ENE-to-WSW. A sawmill (saw mill, saw-mill) or lumber mill is a facility where logs are cut into lumber.
